It still amazes me that, as a grown man, I can watch a clip like that and have tears of joy rolling down my cheeks as I see Tredrea and Mahoney with their arms in the air as Gav's kick sails over their heads and through the big sticks.

We should use some of Gordon's money to build a golden statue of Gavin Wanganeen which could be placed inside the house of a very lucky Port Adelaide supporter who lives in Victoria. You know it makes sense.

Brilliant video as well.

Yep looking at that still makes the hairs on the back of the next stand up.

When Gav retired I wrote in page 3 of the thread that those two goals were the highlight of his career for me. Better than his GF goals. It was a case of cometh the hour, cometh the great champions.

On page 4 of the thread Toots put a whole series of frames from the videos of those 2 goals. It's worth looking at them to remind you how hard they were. See posts 55 and 57.

I was standing behind the goals at the Northern end and when that goal went thru everyone went mad and was jumping up and down and the bloke next to me stomped on my broken toe and I didnt feel a thing but pure ecstasy. Still brings a tear to my eye watching that. I love watching our supporters go mad with excitement.

That goal from the boundary man, that goal.

Best few seconds of my football supporting life. I've never ever heard Footy Park erupt like it did when that goal sailed through. Probably the defining moment of our AFL journey so far.

I love Gavin Wanganeen.

Best game I have ever been to that Prelim. I was up high in Northern Stand that night. I remember I lost my voice in about the last quarter. Wanganeen was terrific in that game. Definitely one of our all time greats.

I remember running down the hallway screaming I was so happy after that preliminary. This in front of my Uncle and Father who were Saint supporters. Normally I feel bad for the opposition, but that win was incredible.

I remember watching this game while I was packing for for my trip to Sydney, lets just say I didnt get much packing done :p. So disappointed I couldnt make it to the game, but I guess being at the 07 qualifying and prelim finals made up for it. That night we beat the Saints though I think I was playing the club song at maximum volume for about a hour.

You'd be lying if you said this doesnt bring a tear to your eye.

well that's something out of left field, that stasi kid is my first cousins god brother I think. didn't know he was that into the club

after the siren at the saints game was the best feeling. I mean the GF is a whole other level but the prelim still feels like a footy game, the last game before the war. the celebrations and the noise after the siren was unbelievable, people were going nuts, that feeling you get when you realise 40000 other people are all over the moon because they support the same team as you and we just got into the GF.. that was the best feeling

I don't think I remember Wanga's goals properly in my mind but I do remember the Burgoyne smother with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it played out how it did if I couldn't remember my own memory of it. I swear Kingo did something great as well late on but I can't check right now.

Definitely the most emotional ive seen a crowd in my time watching football. It was the hurdle to cross and we just did it. We finally made it after three years of heart break. Literally everyone around me was in tears when that siren went.

I think youre talking about Wilson, he took 2 incredible marks running back with the ball, and they were at important stages when the Saints were making a charge

I reckon it was on a par with the 1977 G/F crowd

When Jack Spry tried to rip Cornes' throat out we went nutso.

They were amazing goals on an amazing night (even though i was up the other end). To me though, Byron Pickett's opening goal on the run in the QF was right up there too. What a massive statement in shedding the choker tag it was. Coming out in the opening minutes and doing that. There was no going back. And the crowd totally lost it's shit!

2004 Prelim. Gut wrenching, nausea enducing, water torture. Absolutely unbelievable.

Roger James' heroic first quarter and JB's smother on Guerra at the death were also great moments.

Also recall in the week leading up to the game, our wonderful media fapping on about how the evil Port fans would jeopardise the Saints players safety if Fraser Gehrig kicked his 100th goal.............Gehrig kicks his 100th...........Lucky to see 5 Port fans on the ground.

Added bonus, Gehrig's 100th goal celebrations completely ruined their momentum and we came steaming back into the contest :D

The only thing that splits the Brisbane round 22 games and this was the final result on the season. An amazing night.
