We could finish 12th

We won't tank- we'll get smashed against our wishes.

Finishing 12th could be a blessing in disguise. Imagine getting a better position in the draft. Imagine getting a decent draw next year. Imagine having our full roster available to kick off the new year.

All rather a lot to be optimistic about.

Think our last year finishing 12th was 2003, but that was out of 16 sides and we were 7-14-1. THis year it'll be 10-10-1 and the non-game vs Adelaide if we lose this weekend. So a more meritorious 12th if you will. We have never finished lower than 12th, which is a record i feel we should wear with pride, and the most compelling stat to show Geelong never tanks is that 1973 is the last season that Geelong has played where the win tally has been below 7 for the season.

Are you sure about that ?o_O I'm pretty sure we would've finished lower than 12th more than a few times over our long history....

As Biggy below rightly says, never finished lower than 12th. But that could only have happened from 1987 onwards when 14 sides were in the league. Indeed for the period 1925 to 1986 not including the two war years Geelong were in recess there were only 12 sides in the comp.

That easier draw may not be any good. It'll include a much improved GWS, pies and Port who'll surely be back. Plus 2 finalists probably bloody North again.
Top 6 draw includes freo and swans who imo will both drop. Plus we get Hawks twice no matter what.
It's the bottom 6 draw that would be handy, the teams above us all look pretty evenly matched next year.

To be honest I think it was the number of games off consecutive 6 day breaks early on this year that took it's toll on the Cats more so than the actual teams we played twice.
