Re: We desperately need a crumber !!!!!!!!!!!!!

"cough" williams in a couple of weeks. He starts ball work this week, to compliment his running training. Earlier this week, people wanted to toy with the idea that we could have a 6 man key position box in the forward line in the near future. Tonights game was an example of how stupid people are. You need players to stay down and crumb the ball, and provide variety. People were questioning williams value in our team. Until a team loses, you dont realise how much you miss them. Williams will provide the crumbing we need until we can secure a crumber in this years draft.

I rather Joffa try crumb then Farmer who shouldnt deserve to be on an AFL list. And Fat Sampi who grabs one mark that made his career.

Rather test our luck in the draft!

I was going to start another thread regarding this topic but I thought i'll bring this out of the archives...
There is one player that I would love to have at our club, in the gold & brown exploding out of a contested situation with the ball and snapping a miracle goal..
This guy at the moment is struggling to maintain his spot in the Geelong team because of the development of Stokes and Varcoe..
This guy can play as a crumbing forward or he can be used in our rotating midfield..
This guy has great disposal and he oozes speed..
The guy I am referring about is Shannon Byrnes..
I would like to get some thoughts from other hawk supporters on this bloke... What do you guys think?
Maybe trade for our third pick or maybe let Clarke go back where he came from, down the princes hwy.. Sewell has taken over Clarkes mantle as number 1 tagger, run with player...
What do you guys think?

Im not sure that we desperately need one! We've won games this year without one. And when Williams is in the side we have him, and good midfielders that seem to do it occasionally! Im not getting worried about it.

When Williams comes back after a knee operation do you think he will be confident with his evasive skills?
We only really have Williams as a small forward.. I would prefer Williams playing out of the goal square like he has been over the last few years, he plays his best footy there..
I think we could benefit with Byrnes.. He is fairly young too so he has got lots to offer..

what about cameron faulkner from the dogs? been around for a while but due to the dogs very small forward line, has had very few opportunities.. wouldnt mind byrnes if we can get him cheap otherwise a draftee might be a better option.

Byrnes I would not rate as a true small forward. Plus his kicking is poor (so already disqualified).

From an occasional look at the Geelong Board, many rate him very poorly, so no thanks.

Small forward is an extremely specialised position, and frequently overrated. Unless we can get someone who will be good enough rated in the top 3 in the competition (long term) then don't bother at all. Play another small midfielder instead (like a McGlynn).

and no, I'm pretty sure Melbourne wouldn't trade for Aaron Davey, no matter what.

I did watch one game of the U-18 champoinship, and Maric was pretty good. Smart and excellent kicking.
