I was going to start another thread regarding this topic but I thought i'll bring this out of the archives...
There is one player that I would love to have at our club, in the gold & brown exploding out of a contested situation with the ball and snapping a miracle goal..
This guy at the moment is struggling to maintain his spot in the Geelong team because of the development of Stokes and Varcoe..
This guy can play as a crumbing forward or he can be used in our rotating midfield..
This guy has great disposal and he oozes speed..
The guy I am referring about is Shannon Byrnes..
I would like to get some thoughts from other hawk supporters on this bloke... What do you guys think?
Maybe trade for our third pick or maybe let Clarke go back where he came from, down the princes hwy.. Sewell has taken over Clarkes mantle as number 1 tagger, run with player...
What do you guys think?
Byrnes I would not rate as a true small forward. Plus his kicking is poor (so already disqualified).
From an occasional look at the Geelong Board, many rate him very poorly, so no thanks.
Small forward is an extremely specialised position, and frequently overrated. Unless we can get someone who will be good enough rated in the top 3 in the competition (long term) then don't bother at all. Play another small midfielder instead (like a McGlynn).
and no, I'm pretty sure Melbourne wouldn't trade for Aaron Davey, no matter what.
I did watch one game of the U-18 champoinship, and Maric was pretty good. Smart and excellent kicking.
