This bull$hit about coralling a bloke with the ball ie standing 2m away with your hands up playing matador defence is crap. Does not put pressure on at all
Look at St Kilda. Rush the ball carrier ASAP and make them Shit themselves
We need to take the fight to the opponent

Tonight was shocking. No wonder we don't dominate young and second rate midfields. So many times where no shepherds or bumps when there should have been.

Houlihan failing to lay a sheperd early in the match sticks well and truely in my mind, was horrible.

Armfield shepherded and was a good inclusion.

Brave player.

Austin surprisingly pushed McIntosh off the ball in the last quarter and gave a teammate some time to clear the ball.

Strong young player. :thumbsu:

Was strong at the contest all night Aussie - that 2 on 1 in the 2nd Q comes to mind despite the fact he got pinned for ball by the ****wit ump!:mad:

And yes Mr C others have been agitating for a much stronger tackling emphasis at Princes Park utilising the Storm for years now.

BTW how ****ing hapless were we tonight? That was the worst win i can remember us 'enjoying' for i don't know how long. :o

Annoys me no end. We don't even hold our ground when corelling which makes it worse - we slowly creep back conceding more space to the opposition.

This is probably the most intelligent and spot on post I have read on BigFooty in months. AND you did it without mentioning bloody Ellard or the WA Blues :p:thumbsu:

Completly agree, it's ok to slow down but you still have to come at the player.

On last night, Armfield and Austin shepherd pretty well which I like. Hadley and Houlihan failed to shepherd on some occasions which I didn't like. These occasions caused turnovers. A lot of our turnovers are due to a lack of shepherding putting the ball carrier under pressure.

^ I wasn't at the game so it's hard to tell, but one of the commentators said that Hadley was pretty much the only bloke who sheparded for Judd and tried to help with Judd's opponent all game

Hadley did lay some good blocks but there was a couple of times he didn't follow up on handballs. But most of the team are guilty of that.

In the past three seasons, St Kilda has ranked 15, 16th and 15th for tackles inside the forward 50. This year, it is No1.
The Saints should have sacked Lyon. :thumbsd:

Everyone forgets that we were a bottom two side in 2007, yet footy supporters and the media expect us to reach the top four two years later. Apparently Carlton should kick out Adelaide, Collingwood and the Dogs who have a game plan they've been working at for years.

Maybe I should bump my "Finals in 2007 = The Bends" thread....

Good things take time.

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. /cliche

Although I'm not sure I think this is that relevant to our side's lack of shepherding, it's actually a really good point in general. If you look at our side, we are playing alot of blokes who probably aren't quite up to it yet, but quite simply we have to put games into.

For example, I love Hammer, but I'm not sure he's quite ready to be playing in an AFL side fighting for finals. The simple fact though is, we aren't going to win the flag this year, so it's in our best interest to get as many games into him as possible. Austin is another good example.

So yes, we should make finals this year, but at the same time it's as much as a development year as last year was

The reason for most of our problems. As long as we are working on little things like this it will all be good. Eventually.

I was just glad to see Judd get some blocks

But yes, it was better all round, hopefully we continue to improve in this area. Has been one of our biggest weaknesses IMO.
