Bit late but MG year on year had a lazy 167.7% increase in sales in March. 2nd month of top 10 manufacturer monthly sales, and still in 10th spot for total year to date sales.

Demand for new cars continued their recovery across Australia for the fifth month in a row, with official March results released today ....... March is historically the second-biggest month for new-car sales – after June – as the end of the Japanese financial year customarily sparks a sales push from most Top 10 brands who are trying to hit targets or forced to respond to sharp deals from Japanese rivals.

The tally of 100,005 new cars reported as sold across Australia in March 2021 represented a 22.4 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, when the pandemic started to hit.

However the March 2021 figure is 3.8 per cent below the five-year average prior to the pandemic – 104,000 – and only marginally higher than the 2019 result of 99,400. Further, the data shows 263,648 new cars were reported as sold in the first three months of 2021 – up 13 per cent compared to the same period last year – however this is 4.2 per cent below the pre-pandemic five-year average of 280,500.

MG continue their record sales level.

April and May sales Year on Year had a decent increase over the previous 12 months as these were the first 2 lockdown months all over Oz last year.

But in general car sales are bouncing back after 3 poor declining years as the purse strings are being loosened around Oz. But production shortages are starting to cause delays and having to order in advance.

.

MG April 2021 3,007 vs April 2020 414 = 726% increase. MG Ranked 10th in April 2021 sales
April 2021 YTD 11,735 10th vs 3,730 April 2020 YTD sales

The tally of 92,347 new cars reported as sold across Australia during April 2021 represents a 137.2 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, and a 12.5 per cent increase over the five-year rolling average.

May's sales
Official new-car sales figures for May 2021 released today show demand for new motor vehicles has returned to pre-COVID19 levels, but it was the second-best May result rather than a record.

A total of 100,809 new vehicles were reported as sold in May 2021, an increase of 68.3 per cent compared to the disastrous May 2020 result posted in the grip of the coronavirus crisis......... The new-car sales record for May stands at 102,901 set in 2017, however the May 2021 result was 3.7 per cent higher than the five-year average for May prior to the lockdown.

MG May 2021 3,506 vs April 2020 664 = 528% increase. MG Ranked 11th in May 2021 Subaru 3,547 was 10th.
May 2021 YTD 15,241 10th vs 4,394 May 2020 YTD sales

As has been the case since the start of the year, the industry says most of the new cars delivered in May 2021 were ordered months ago and it is now struggling to secure enough new vehicles amid production slowdowns due to semiconductor shortages.
...............

The Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) has repeated its advice to consumers, to “get in the queue now because the stock situation changes daily.” “Dealers are doing the best they can to keep customers up to date but unfortunately delivery times of a lot off vehicle are repeatedly being pushed back,” said the CEO of the AADA James Voortman.

As CarAdvice has previously reported, most new cars have up to 300 semiconductors or computer chips – to power vehicle safety systems and infotainment technology – while electric cars can have up to 3500 of the devices.

In an attempt to keep production lines moving, luxury brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz have temporarily deleted some of their most advanced safety systems on certain models. French car maker Peugeot has reverted to old school analogue instrument dials rather than digital displays in some of its cars.

Caradvice article out showing that .....

It’s not just Australia that’s embracing MG Motor, with the once-British, now Chinese-owned brand, enjoying a growth spurt in its spiritual homeland.

MG Motor has sold 10,760 cars in the UK so far this year, representing 89.2 per cent growth year-to-date.

In Australia, MG Motor has outsold its British counterparts, recording 15,241 sales so far this year (up 246.9 per cent year-on-year) with May alone accounting for 3506 sales. At the same time last year, MG had sold a total of 4394 cars and SUVs.

I see a lot of MG3s around.
The fact that it cost as much brand new as a lot of used cars were going for during the pandemic definitely went in its favour.
If used car prices return to normal, it will be interesting to see if it can keep up its growth.

MG, Haval take over Holden/Honda stores

Open points a gift to Chinese brands in Australia as dealers move to fill empty showrooms

I’ve read that MG have grown from two to five dealer outlets in Adelaide, including a showroom on West Tce. Also a dealership in Mt. Gambier.

The timing of our partnership was perfect.

MG have been 8th 9th or 10th monthly sales and total YTD sales every month since my last up date in June.

At end of October were 9th YTD sales of 32,014 units vs 11,308 to end of October 2020. Drive took over Car Advice 18 months ago and has now completely replaced them.

Well we held them off for almost 2 years.

Head Office showroom is about 2 kms away from Redfern Oval down O'Riordan Street in Alexandria.

When it got down to Port v The Rabbitohs for the sponsorship, after knocking out Collingwood and Essendon, the Rabbitohs were in front and the Sydney based marketing head of MG wanted to go with the Rabbitohs. Up stepped Darren Cahill and changed all that.

The fact Port and The Rabbitohs had done a few things together around preseason training, we took some young players up there and their goal kicking star Adam Reynolds and his second in command Cody Walker and couple of assistant coaches came to Alberton later than preseason, there might have been some assistance from us when they dealt with MG.

This is where a huge opportunity lies in the MG partnership if Port are smart enough to work it.

...... It is also a leader in the electric vehicle space, thanks to the best-selling ZS EV and versatile HS Plus EV. ......

both my teams, which makes me happy.
I also notice they’ve gone with a ‘random fan’ storyline for the sponsorship.

If we were smart, we would give away an MG EV + Solar panel and Battery solution, our 2nd tiered sponsor RAA have a package, ZEN Energy do as well, Gupta owned 51%, changed them, then sold out his share, as some sort of membership prize and we would have that fan's story / diary of owning an EV for 12 months on the club's website and other social media channels.

And /or could do some sort of special deal where the first 10 members who take it up, could buy an MG EV + Solar panel and Battery solution for something ridiculously cheap say like $20k and they all do a diary type story via the club website and social media channels over their first 12 months of ownership.

EVs are coming, get it out there what benefits they have, especially when there is a holistic electricity solution and help with some of that range anxiety people have about EVs. At some point we will follow Europe and have an end date for fossil fuel vehicle sales.

Get the club to help MG + RAA or Zen Energy with a classic Pull Marketing strategy.

The VFacts for November show another great month for MG.

New-car sales across Australia hit reverse for the second month in a row in November 2021 – after 11 months in positive territory – as the automotive industry continued to grapple with global stock shortages.
Official new-car sales figures for November 2021 – released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries – show 80,639 vehicles were reported as sold, down 15.3 per cent compared to the same month last year (which was still in the grip of the COVID pandemic) and the weakest November result in 13 years, since 2008.

......

Chinese car brands continue to roar up the charts, with MG finishing seventh – its highest monthly ranking to date, maintaining ninth place year-to-date – ahead of fellow Chinese brands Great Wall Motors Haval (13th) and LDV (15th).

CD made a point of mentioning the commercial opportunities our FTA fixture schedule allows.

MG's continuing success along with our coverage might encourage greater sponsorship spending.

Its part of the reason why they become JMS of our AFLW team along with Santos, and replaced GFG as the Magpies major sponsor in 2022.
