Pretty much this

I just got of the phone with a bloke that has known Dayne for years and lives on the GC i worked with him for a couple of years speak to him once every 6 months.

Dayne is leaving Collingwood for a few reasons this is how he pretty much put it

Father - 20%
Shaw - 20%
Leading Teams - 20%
Bucks - 20%
Playing with Claye - 20%

They are pretty much the reasons he is leaving so its a bit of everything Collingwood is filthy and are now playing hard ball as they know its not all to do with his Father
20% for Buckley is unders :D

I'm a bit worried about "the Beams trade". OK he's a good player, but don't we have a lot of good and developing mids. Yes he could potentially add a bit but if 3R's, Aish, Hanley, Zorks, Lewy, Mayes, Dawson etc don't make a decent midfield, what ever will.

Second are we convinced about him. OK I understand his dad's got cancer and I am very sorry about that. But how much if any of this is tied up in (a) a desire to get out of Collingwood, (b) a play for more money.

Thirdly for such a high profile player does he display the type of leadership and character you would expect. Is he part of Collingwood's leadership group. They say he doesn't like Leading Teams - fair enough but in any job you've got to cop some (hopefully constructive) feedback from colleagues and bosses. What about the rape allegations - what as that about. Collingwood supporters seem to think he should be grateful because the club "got him off". Does it matter that he didn't tuen up at their B&F.

TBH if he is that keen to come and the deal falls through we will have another shot and his value to Collingwood will reduce if they don't have a 100% effective player for 2015 then someone who is out of contract.

Bottom line - I am a bit sceptical. We miss Pick 5, we potentially miss a 200+ game Key Pos player - Wright, Durden etc. The word is this is the draft for talls - next year is all about mids. Plus of we go all out for the trade we either throw in an up and coming player, or Pick 25 - and look what picks in the 20'a got us last year with smart recruiting.

Just my thoughts. What I would be doing is is offering Pick 5 ONLY. I would also be stating that publically. At 5 pm Friday, deal would be off and he would be Collingwood's problem.
don't overthink this.

Yet when I was suggesting as much on the trade board weeks ago you were one of the leaders in potting me.

Last week while it might have been accurate it didn't fit in with the Collingwoods board Beam trade narrative.
Or Colingwood's itself. Was much more palatable for their fans For the club to spin it that he was only leaving the Pies "to Queensland" for family reasons and that otherwise he absolutely loves Collingwood etc.

Now the penny is slowly dropping for them, day by day that it is about much much more. Now the funny thing is they are coming in here to try and educate US about it. Dudes, we already knew!

I think the major point is that it significantly weakens Beams' ability to only go to Brisbane (this year). If he just wants out of Collingwood then it is difficult to assert that he will only go to one club, particularly so, given he is still a contracted player. The family/father narrative suited him just as much as it did Collingwood. His manager stated this was 99% of the reason he was seeking to return north.

Anyhow, you guys have until Friday sundown. Do your best.

I don't know if it does, really. Collingwood at least don't appear to have changed the narrative, even if differing stories crop up in the informal media from time to time.

If Collingwood strike a deal to trade Beams to a non-Queensland club, then they have to change the narrative that so far they've stuck to pretty strongly. They might get a good enough deal that they figure it's worth the PR damage, but the incentive is still strongest to trade with Brisbane, even if Beams was prepared to go elsewhere. And there's been no indication so far that Beams is prepared to go elsewhere.

I think we're in the end-game. While Collingwood have thrown up a number of players' names none of them have gained any traction. There might be one or two players who are unsettled that we don't know about: look at Christensen at the Cats. But it's getting pretty close to Pert's deadline for someone to emerge.

The popular view on our board at the start of this process was that our first and second round picks would be the trade. Right now it's looking like it might be slightly more than that, although I'm not sure what exactly. We just don't have any more to offer unless something changes. Collingwood have played the game in order to try and wring as much as they can from us and right now we seem to be offering as much as we can, or close to it.

Me "It's so I can talk to other Brisbane fans about trades ect ect"

GF "Oh, have Brisbane traded for someone?"

Me "No.... But apparently we have till 5pm Friday"

GF "So all the time youve spent on here you have no one???"

Me "Yeah"

GF "........... Okay"

Feels that way. Don't think there is much discussion left to take place between Brisbane and Collingwood directly. Feels like we're at the same point we were before trade week started with our first and second picks set to create the overwhelming bulk of the trade (if not the entirety). Whether some of that gets filtered through a third party club or gets slightly upgraded via a Patfullesque trade seems to be the only uncertainty at this time.

That said, I reckon the Pies will wait until Friday afternoon before anything gets formalised to at least look like their "deadline" had some actual force and effect.
