Whether some of that gets filtered through a third party club or gets slightly upgraded via a Patfullesque trade seems to be the only uncertainty at this time.
I think the potential Patfull trade to GWS will be enough for us to get the Beams deal across the line. Schwab and Swann would know exactly where we stand and whether the 5 + 25 offer is good enough to get the deal done.

Despite all the posturing in the media and on BF amongst both clubs supporters, Schwab and Hine would have already sat down and we would know exactly where we stand and what is needed in order to get the deal across the line. If 5 and 25 aren't enough, then that is where the Patfull trade would come in to provide the 'extras' which could allow us to either add another draft pick or some upgrades pick(s).

In relation to the 5pm Friday deadline set by Collingwood for the Beams trade was it specified whether this was daylight savings time or eastern standard time? Imagine the hi jinks that would ensure if Swanny tried to call the Pies at 4.59pm Brisbane time only to be told he was an hour late!

Reminds me of Oompo Mousikako back on Mypos, he was a great Myposian accordion player whose brother Bimbo funded his early career with stolen money, causing Oompo to play badly once he found out, thereby ruining his career.

It's funny how emotive the Bigfooty trade threads get to the point where the supporters project the same level of emotion onto the list managers at their club - on both sides of the fence.

Derek Hine will say something totally innocuous on the radio like "Brisbane have been told what we are looking for to get a deal done" and then the Pies supporters say "HAHAHAHA! Dekka just told the Lions to go **** themselves!!!! Your move Schwab you campaigner!"

When you know in reality the actual conversation is infinitely more businesslike and professional.

For all the BigFooty posturing on both sides we are mere spectators.

Exactly. Both clubs would have sat down and understood exactly where the other club sits in terms of their needs and where their list is at.

Hine: We want an experienced player to come in to replace Beams as our list can't afford to lose all this experience.
Schwab: We can't give up any of the players you are asking for as we are rebuilding our list around these guys.
Hine: I understand where your list is at and why you are reluctant to trade these players, but we want a ready to go player to replace Dayne.
Schwab: I understand why you want that, but we can't provide you that player. What we can provide you is the currency you need via draft picks to go and get that player.
Hine: In order for us to go and get a suitable player here are the draft picks we would need ...
Schwab: We'll go away and see if we can get you those draft picks.
Hine: We'll need them by 5pm Friday in order to give us enough time to go and get us a player in the second week.
Schwab: OK we'll be in touch.

Pies fans won't be happy with a trade that doesn't involve one of our gun young players. They are fools for thinking we would just hand one over. As if they would hand one over if the shoe was on the other foot. They are pretending pick 5 has no value which is just ridiculous. Top 5 picks rarely ever get traded that is why they are so valuable.

Luckily, the only parties that need to be happy with the trade are both clubs and Dayne Beams. Thankfully the supporters and BF posters of both clubs don't have to be consulted and give their approval.

I do really like the whole :

'Pick five is worthless, give us that player that you drafted last year with pick #7, or maybe the guy you got the year before with pick #8'

it meshes beautifully with the

'We don't want no bloomin lottery pick five, did i mention that our recruiter and list managers are absolute guns, who can pick the eyes out of any draft'

and the

' asterisk, asterisk... home sick players, trade us a south australian now'

But that is football, and emotions and team coloured glasses. It amuses and irks me but I understand it. #patronisingthepies

My absolute favorite:

"Beams is contracted, you'll need to pay overs to get him!"
"If Dangerfield wants to leave lets offer bare minimum, you don't keep players who want to leave!"

Just wondering if we would be doing better with this trade if we still had Rob Kerr?

Not bagging our current guys more just how good Kerr was.

FWIW I have no issue with how our guys have played it so far.

The best part about Kerr was the post-trade wrap up essays, would have been a belter this year.

Nah SugarCoat says he's wanted to go home since March.

Kerr took his time with the trades last year so it's hard to tell.
