He was never worth 6..

Love the back-flip. lol. You spent about 3 weeks bleating on about how it was pick 6 or nothing. I guess you've flipped into damage-control-mode now. You took what you were given. At least you didn't completely stuff it up by letting him go into the PSD for zip. :)

True, but close your eyes for a second, taking with them an image of our statistics for hit-outs last season....

now imagine Warnock is in the ND.........but he is 206cm, 95kg version instead of 206cm, 45kg version...

WH:

Pick 6 - Jack Ziebell
Pick 24 - Robert Warnock
Pick 40 -?

Now open your eyes..

happy much??

Exactly what I was going to post. Last year we got SMASHED in the hitouts. With a 206cm ruckman, even if his hitouts are ordinary, but knowing he'll get most of the hitouts, our midfield can learn to read him. Imagine the likes of Juddy, Gibbs and Murph being able to run around the packs, knowing their 206 giant will get the first touch most of the time :thumbsu: Then imagine when Warnock develops some more and starts placing his taps to our advantage :thumbsu::thumbsu: Also with his aquisition it means Kreuzer's development will benefit immensely :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: Very happy, mainly because Freo got bent over again :D

He was never worth 6.

He aint a dud.

We blinked but it is hardly being bent over ...I'd say if we had got 40 it would have been breakeven. One round later (the later upgrade is almost funny but I think it shows who had the upper hand) definetly advantage you.

I honestly think the trade is a fair trade. I still think Freo have maintained their trade week reputation though - they demanded an earlier pick than 24, then with 30mins left of trade week came wandering up to Carlton accepting pick 56 (which was offered at least a day earlier). All your huffing and puffing was for pick 56? You failed to get what you want once again

As I said though, I still think its a fair trade. Freo were asking too much in the first place

To be fair to Mescalito, he has maintained consistency with his views on Warnock. Personally, I think you've done better out of this than us because I think Warnock is worth more than that. But time will tell, I guess.

Definition of a good deal. Both parties a little unhappy.

Freo obviously wanted more but in the end took what they could get. Carlton offered a fair price, then had to sweeten it.

Personally, I'm completely rapt we now have a 206cm ruck.

It's been over 10 years since Harry hung up the boots. Carlton have not been truly competitive in the ruck since(apologies to Matthew Allan).

Anything after #45ish, and you are really going to struggle to find anything worth while in the draft. Happy that we were able to keep our hands on #6 and #40 - get a really good player at #6, and still a reasonable talent at #40.

I was worried the 3rd round pick would go or would be down-graded. Beyond that the picks don't mean much. The late pick exchange was in reality just a token effort to make Freo feel that they had gained something. In fairness, Freo got the best they could considering the situation, but just wasted a heap of time they could of spent working on other trades. At the end of the day we got what we wanted, and at the price we wanted. Great result for Robbie as well - he had his heart set on the Blues and stood firm throughout. :)

I'm still really worried about our forwardline situation, most notably a key position forward to develop in Fev's final years. With the GC drafts, it's going to be extra hard to get one without trading a quality player for one of the GC's early picks.

Other than Hurley, is the a KPP, most notably a key position forward, who you could get away with taking at pick 6? Or is the gap between the likes of Ziebell and the next best forward option too great? If so, do you think their will be any decent key forward prospect around 40 you can think of? Obviously he isn't a key forward, but where do you think Neville Jetta wil go? I like the sound of him

I got Warnock photoshopped off your website

I've never said 6 mate....nor have most of the BF Freo posters. Most were in the 6 to high/24 to low camp.

I was in the 24 & sweetner group and that didn't occur. Also does my post sound like I am saying we won the deal or is it recognising you did?

Parrot try winning with some grace....you might find class suits you.

Getting Warnock really frees up someone like a Cam Cloke who can play up forward a lot more than he has in the past. He can certainly take a mark, and is a great kick of the football. If I was Ratts, i'd be playing him mainly as a forward in 2009, and let Warnock, Kreuzer and Hampson share the rucking duties.

As for selection #6, i'd simply take the best available there. You can make arguments here for quite a few players, but, at the end of the day, I trust the recruiters to get the job done.

Selection #40 is where they will earn there money, but there is enough talent in this draft that we should snare someone reasonably good here. Selection #69 is a straight out lottery.

OK id just like to toot my own horn for a sec. In April i told 2 of my friends that Warnock was my 2nd fav player. They replied with a "who". I then told them that Warnok wold be playing for Carlton next year." I obviously got the normal response. "yeah ok". Iamshaunhiggins who also happens to be my bets buddie will prove this if you want proof. Well im done tootin!

LOL. :D

Good luck with getting the unlisted parrot to be humble. ;)

If you change 2009 to 2010 I'm right with you.

I still think Warnock's body isn't up to first ruck over a full season. Already last year he has had a back injury pre-season (possibly due to the 10kg's he put on), and then a shoulder injury later in the year.

I just hope when we see Clokes till rucking SOME of next year and Hampson coming in and out of the side, people (not you HBF, but others less rational) don't start whinging about how we have wasted our trade.

If think he will take some first ruck, but maybe not as much as people think next year.

Agree. I hope Cloke does at least as much ruckwork as Warnock next year. He's still a twig and young and raw. Don't want to mess up his body so early. Cloke's job still has to be to take most of the crash and bash in the ruck contests. I can't see Hampson playing that many games next year. I'd have Warnock, Cloke and Kreuzer all starting in the same side (as long as Kreuzer can keep going), with Cloke and Kreuzer rotating through the forwardline

Just want to say I still think Warnock will eventually dominate and become a top 3 ruckman. Give it a couple of years though.
I don't see him developing intp a top three ruckmen.

That would mean he'd have gone past Cox, Sandiland, McIntosh, Hille, Charman, Ottens, Jolly, Kreuzer, Naitanui and Leuenberger.

Hard to seeing him becoming that good IMO.

The youngest three on my list have shown more and have more talent.

Guys can someone tell me.... ummmm did we get Warnock? Or did Freo play hardball?.

that was so easy! we always get what we want
who is next?

Yes, lots of froth and bubble from these WA regional Clubs, but they eventually blink and cough up. I really thought Danger Harvey was going to let him go into the PSD. Suspect he realized that it would be to our advantage and not a great career move. :)
