Port Adelaide has arrived as a force in the AFL now after that crushing win against Geelong at Kardinia Park.

Anyeone who doesnt think so is either very ignorant, or mentally challenged.

We have now won away, like you all said we had to do to be taken serious...weve won at Kardinia Park, which is tough to do...and we demolished them. Its now time to give Port the credit they deserve

Disappointing last quarter I thought....we were 80 points up and won by 46....if those 34 points had gone to Port and not the Cats we would have won by 114 which is what we have failed to do.

Anyway...enough negatives...I thought we killed them for 3 quarters and I just won a 6 pack of crownies as a result !!! *hic*

If you think beating Geelong at Kardina Park means you have arrived then you are the mentally challenged one.

To be taken seriously you have to win at the MCG and when you do that, when it matters most,in finals.

Then they will get some credit, not because they have won a few insignificant and run of the mill home and away games.

Wait a few more rounds yet. In 1999, Geelong was 5-0, and Collingwood were also 5-0 in 2000. It's too early to tell. Other clubs will sit up and take notice soon, and start to give some of the "unheralded" Port players the attention they deserve.

We have only played there twice before and lost by 80 and 30 points!!

It took Adelaide 8 years and 7 games there to win at Kardinia Park. It took Brisbane 7 years after their initial win at Kardina Park to do it again.
Only two teams have a winning record there...Carlton and Collingwood. The fact that most interstate teams there get thumped when they go there makes Ports win even better.

We got told "win away, then yo uwill get noticed"...we have done that!!

Yep, Port's 1 game per year at the MCG (apart from finals) is the only one that they will be taken seriously if they win.

They can only win where they play, if they don't have games at the MCG it is very hard to win them.

Convincingly beating Geelong was a good effort, but the big test will come mid season playing 4 out of 5 away from FP. If they can win 2 or 3 of those games then they will be set up for the finals, as we will most games at FP this year, unless they fall into complete disarray.

Yes i wasnt too happy that we gave up a 80 point win...but remember Ge3elong had a 3 goal wind in the last quarter, and they kicked 7 goals to 4. Still...an unbelivable victory!! 23 goals!! Another game above 100 points...Dew kicking 6 and Jarrad kicking 5...unbelivbale.

Would of been closer if Geelong played the ball for more than 10 minutes in the last quarter

I think Macca is right here. That was a good enough away win, despite Ports slacking off in the last quarter, to consider that Port have shown they are a good side.

So I agree Macca, well done Port. Ports second and third quarters was amongst the best footy we have seen all year from any side in the comp.

Port will do very well this season if they can keep this type of form going.

But have they arrived?

Let's see how they go against teams in the top half of the ladder before we get too carried away.

By your logic Macca, Richmond also have 'arrived' - but I am not getting too carried away yet. Remember, we were 9 - 3 last year before finishing 11 - 11. It is a long way to go yet and nobody cares about April champions.

Well we got the game live into melbourne today and i dont get that many chances to watch footy on telly but i stayed in this arvo and watched the geelong and port game.

And i was impressed with port they looked very fast and skillful and im booked to go with the cheer squad to adelaide in a few weeks time to watch the pies take on port.
And i wanna cancel....LOL its too far to go and watch your team lose.......

But im collingwood proud i will be there supporting my beloved pies until there is no breath left to support with.

Small things amuse small minds.

I give credit to sides like Essendon who continuously win week in & week out and who came back in 2000 after the 99 debacle. I give credit to Carlton who consistently play finals. I give credit to North who have finished top 4 last 8 years. I used to give credit to West Coast for similiar reasons. I give credit to Adelaide for winning back to back.

I am beginning to give credit to Collingwood and Hawthorn who are building long term quality sides through recruiting.

I give no credit to the remaining pretenders - Brisbane, Melbourne, Port, Sydney, Richmond, Geelong, Freo and Bulldogs who have generally have one 'up' year, may win a final or two on emotion but cannot sustain it, drop back to last to recieve priority draft picks, or make the finals but do nothing and wilt in September when it matters, think they have arrived by stringing a few wins together mid season but go to water when required to win to make the finals.

Port have yet done nothing to remove them themselves from the creditless pretender list.

Sydney have made the finals every year since 1996, with the exception of last year, when they missed the finasl by half a game, after losing a string of close ones. They deserve a lot of credit, especially if you take into account where they were in 1994. One of the most consistenty teams over the last 5 or 6 years.

What do you think Port has been doing for the last 4 season?, you dumb shit.

We are now starting to see the rewards of our recruiting over those 4 seasons with our youngsters now standing up and becomming quality AFL footballers.

I find equally amusing that you rate Collingwood higher than Port given these few facts:
- Collingwood have never finished higher on the AFL ladder than Port since Ports exception in the AFL
- Port has had more success than Collingwood in this short time
- Port has built up a side that is capable of doing big things this season
- Port have played finals football in the last 4 seasons...Collingwood hasnt
- Collingwood has won a wooden spoon in this time

How can you give some credit to collingwood, when in the 4 years Port have been competing, they have finished ahead of Collingwood each year, and are again ahead of them this year as well.

I'll agree with the pretender tag to an extent, as we haven't taken the next step, and always seem to 'choke'. That perception/tag I don't have a problem with, as there's a basis for it. But we also don't fall into the other bracket that you gave 'pretenders', the "up one year-bottom next playing for draft picks". You gave credit to Carlton for "consistenly making finals"- We've finished in the finals 7 times in the last decade- (last 4 years straight).... Only finished lower than 10th once.... granted without a premiership... but that's alongside a few teams you gave credit to.

But giving Collingwood more credit than us over the past few years? They fit the description of the teams you don't give credit to and vice versa for us.

So who do you give more credit to:
a) Club that has made the finals once in the last 10 years, has finished bottom in that time, received priority draft picks to aid recruiting etc ect..

b) Team that has made the finals consistently, without the help of higher end draft picks, has played in three prelims, albeit failing in that last hurdle.

Or more importantly, which team would you have rathered followed in that time? I'm not trying to justify our 'choking' or whatnot (close enough is not good enough! and we have to drill that into everyone involved in the club if we're going to suceed any further), but I'm just trying to put our 'success' into perspective compared to other teams that you gave credit to. One point before I finish, do you give us credit for getting so much 'success' out of what, many honestly regard, as a faily ordinary list?

Well anyway, i pretty much agreed with ya Choppy, we have to win a premiership to earn your (and the football public's) respect... and that's the way we want it..... no excuses .... and I wouldn't mind an article calling us pretenders before our next prelim....

I think Port are an excellent team, playing the best, most creditable, consistent and solid convincing footy outside of last years premiers at the moment.
I believe they can play this same footy in September and will be looking for a (at least one) home final which they can undoubtedly win.
That said, the standard they are currently setting will be increasingly approached as the season wears on, from all quarters, ie. both ends of the ladder.
A team that 'arrives' usually loses the next week.
Oh yeah.. CHOPPY, you are a CRETIN! Good luck in the future.

Oh i am an essendon supporter westy boy, i am just sick to death of the bulldogs!!

I live about 2 minutes away from whitten oval and the amount of scum that goes there is unberable!!
