Well after the 2nd quarter I thought we would do ok but The second half was pathetic and we ended up having a blow out! Still some old bad habits from KJ years that the exorcist is going to have to come back and do an exorcism again!

A bit rough on Judge there.....you lost playing the same Woosha gameplan as in the first half, its just that Port changed their game a bit to match it better.

If you have a look at our three losses this year, there is something in common with all of them: We go through a short period at some point (always early) where the opposition piles on a heap of unanswered goals. If you look at these periods, you will notice the Eagles go back to the KJ style. They sit at ball ups and don't go for the ball. The opposition just runs the ball out with all the Eagles standing there waiting for someone else to do the work.

Collingwood: I think it was the first quarter when Brodie Holland kicked all those goals.

Melbourne: Second quarter when Neitz kicked a heap of goals

Port: First quarter when they ran over the top of us.

Apart from that, I am very satisfied with the Eagles progression so far. Our midfield were outclassed today, but that doesn't stop me thinking that the Eagles will have one of the best, if not the best midfield in years to come.

I think the point where there was 29 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter, and Port ran it straight out of the centre unopposed to kick a goal, told the story.

saying that the boys were pathetic in the 2nd half is being a bit rough. Forget the final margin I was very happy with the boys today, playing an in form Port at thier home grownd is always a tough ask.

The distinguishing factor I think was Ports delivery into the forward line and thier ability to find options under pressure.

I don't think the final margin gave WC's effort much justice, but I would put Ports midfield up there with Brizzy's when it comes to dificulty in shutting down thier run-ons.

We missed the finishing and class of Wirrapunda in the midfield today. For mine I would drop Embly, Keep Haynes and maybe give Munro another run.

I would not have brought Jakovich back on, he was clearly struggling to even handpass when he came back.

Still WC and the Dockers can't win on the same weekend, but am already looking forward to the Kangas next week.

Embley was pretty pathetic.

Haynes played quite well, seems to have lost a bit of fat over two weeks?

Munro wasn't sighted much but didn't muck up or anything.

Embley might stay next week though, in defence he was alright, but in attack he was woeful. With Gaspar injured, he might have to play next week.

Munro spent most of the day bench warming but when he was on he definately didn't look out of place. I would like to see him given more game time.

We were pathetic for about the last twenty minutes of the first quarter. It cost us the game again. The rest of the game we ranged from below average to very good - enough to keep us in the game, or put us in winning position, had we not had that twenty minute pathetic period.

Am I the only person thats noticed that you were goalless in the third, not the first?

I thought the game was fairly even after halftime but Port took there chances in front of goal whereas we wasted ours. Port dominated the first quarter, we dominated the second quarter. But after that we just didnt take our chances, Embly in particular in front of goal. Frustrating but you get that. Thought our midfield did well, probably ended up about even.

Fact is that Port are a very good and exciting team....and better than us. But we are developing very niceley. I thought Munro and haynes did very well coming into the side. Wooden and Chambers excelled.
Yes the margin was bigger than we would have liked but we lost our key talls. Milli was alrteady out, Jacko did his shoulder, Gaspar a leg by half time. Then I didn't see Gardy for the whole of the last quarter. Was he injured too? I thought Cox did well considering the class of his opponent.
Embley had one of those days and I'm not sure I like Merenda in midfield. Williams and Jones were quiet. Brauny was a liverwire.
Fido will be back next week and maybe Tuckey, who is playing well. Sierra may come in if Gaspar doesn't make it. I would guess that Trent Carroll would be needed as a back up for Jacko.

Because of this better than expected start to the season i have to keep reminding myself of the facts so that i dont get too annoyed at the loss. Im expecting us to win every match now which just wont happen. The reality is that we are still rebuilding, were young and we just got beaten by a top 4 side at there home ground. I have to remember that so that i dont get too pissed off.

We may have been goal less in the third quarter, but we only let 4 goals through. We let eight goals through in the first quarter, and a lot of the time we didn't even touch the ball. Even though we didn't score in the third quarter, we played much worse in the first.

Embley's easy misses in the final quarter really hurt us too. 54 points was a very unfair scoreline since we could of been a bit closer to Port.

Good to see Haynes chip in with 2 goals.

I also thought Wilson's misses hurt us too. From limited opportunities on the day he needed to make the most of them, and his kicking for the game was a little off. Hopefully he'll bring his kicking boots this w/e, and the rest of the team too for that matter.

They werent bad kicks though...just offline...know huge movements from the goal umpire or out on the fulls. But just outside 50 is right in his ballpark, he loves them from that distance and really has to kick those.

Interesting to see who will win the Coleman this year. With Lloyd out for 4 to 6 probably will he be too far behind....that really leaves it to Wilson, Hall and even Neitz who is in good form. Still plenty of season to go though.
