We need more diversity in the commentary box

Genuinely believe AFL commentary has hit probably its biggest low this year.

We were spoilt growing up in the 80s/90s with the likes of Peter Landy, Drew Morphett (RIP), Peter McKenna, Dennis Cometti etc.

Even the likes of Don Scott, Bernie Quinlan, Terry Wheeler etc offered more in the special comments role, with far less technological resources, than this current crop in the media.

People complained about those guys at the time, people think whoever was commentating when they were growing up were the best.

I caught about three minutes of Dermie last week, (don't worry, they have a cream,) and you'll be shocked to learn he was trying to make himself sound much cleverer than he actually is! In this case it was repeatedly referring to a player or a team's recurring characteristics as "being in their DNA." Now this is an on-point scientific allusion if used sparingly, like once a season - and preferably not about any Black players!!! but three times in three minutes...it was like the record was skipping. Upon analysis, it seemed that what he was effectively saying was "Yeah, they're like that because that's what they're like, Chieftain." But overall, the commentators are just a waste of cortisol. Che sera sera.

I’d like to see Josh Gibson try his hand at commentary. Or at least special comments first.
