We need to trade Bradley.

Earl spalding was a rubbish kick yet turned himself into a very important cog in the Melbourne and carlton forward lines. Ian Perie is a terrible kick yet works his arse off to provide a viable option for his team mates streaming out of defense.

Keps can get by with what he has but as a whole we have way too many average kicks on our team and that is something we need to look at over the next few draft and trading periods.

kepler bradley will be a AA chb in 5 years and the best chb in the comp. when he plays chb he is a great reader of the play and can leave his opponent to take plenty of marks. his one of the best marks at the club. also has he been beaten in a one on one marking contest at chb this year? you will find most of his opponents marks are uncontested as he does not have the endurance yet.

he is struggling up forward because he is not a natural presenter at the ball carrier. he is far better sitting back and reading play and getting to the contest that way. definately not tradeable, for a round pick anyway.

i could name other players that would be traded well before him on form so far: solomon, peverill, welsh, bolton, and rioli.

not to mention others like henneman, reynolds and cartledge

Hes just not a Key Position Player, he spent his whole junior career playing off a wing cos he wasnt good enough in a KPP spot and that is where he plays his best footy.

Play him on a wing and watch him blossom, or play him in defence and watch him struggle for the rest of his career.

will b a very good centre half back in a few years time always backs himself and takes a good grab sheedy just has to keep him in that position thats all trust me theres worse than him getting around, if we wanna get rid of somebody get rid of bolton worse thing was getting rid of jacobs instead of him

absolutely correct, why did we get rid of a player who played full back when fletcher was out, he never lowered his colours especially when he played on Tarrrant in peak form.

His kicking isn't dreadful, perhaps slightly below average, there are worst kicks in the game.

Yeah, I like how he presents himself and wants to get into games, he'll be an excellent footballer by 2008.

Yeah well he has missed crucial shots against collingwood and hawthorn from 20-30 metres out directly in front, and when down back he does tiggy touch wood kicks that places team mates under enormous pressure. This is how i justify his dreadful kicking.

But i have faith in him to correct it within the next 2 years and become a leading defensive big man, he just needs to build on his strengths which include his mobility, this will come after a couple of seasons. Big men dont generally mature until there 25 unless ther freaks like lloyd and brown. Barry Hall was being played down back by malcolm blight, everitt was never as consistent at the saints as he is now at the hawks, fletch took 5 years.

Can I just say this again -

It was never a choice between Bolton and Jacobs for Pick 6.
If we traded Bolton (of which Hawthorn's interest was luke warm at the most), we never would have got Pick 6 from the deal.

Champion players come ready made to every club. Just draft 22 of them, and you've got yourself a premie... wait a minute.. something's missing... oh yeah, player development! I'm sure that has something to do with a club's success...

Sorry Longy- that is just not true. I know that Hawthorn would have accepted Bolton instead of Jacobs. Essendon chose to unload Jacobs because Bolton looked like he finally got it and Jacobs had been involved in quite a few misdeamenors that the club kept quiet. The trade I wish we completed was Bolton and Henneman for Everitt. Believe or not this trade was not far away from fruition. Go figure!

Before the rest of the competition realises that he can't kick, can't handball and can't mark. Suspect they'll all know by year's end though.

If we're lucky we may still get a first round pick.

Hope I'm wrong but fear he will become Essendon's answer to Nick Holland. A has been that never was.
We'll give you an even swap, Charlie Gardiner for Kepler Bradley.Charlie can't kick, mark, handball or keep his feet.

Yes, what a good idea.
I mean Fletch can play for another 5 years at least so we don't need to groom a key position defender.

Thought you might find this interesting. This is renowned junior analyst Wiseby thoughts on Kepler before after he was drafted. Do these word ring true now.

EARLY PICK QUERIES (in draft order) – I wouldn’t be that surprised if they make it but I have concerns whereas many people would label them "definite":

BRADLEY, Kepler (6) [Ess] Gangly athletic giant. Despite reputation, is not quick. Huge heart and motor. Runs hard, far and relentlessly. Very poor natural balance. Iffy kick - Awkward, unbalanced kicking style. What AFL role suits?

Interesting stuff.

I've heard different.
I've heard the deal for Bolton did not involve pick 6. And the Dogs had more interest in Bolton than Hawthorn did.

The club also asked Jacobs to take a pay cut to stay, which in the end he wasn't prepared to do.

In the end it was about finding the best deal for EFC. Not putting Jacobs and Bolton up against each other.

I heard the Kangaroos were willing to take Bolton for pick 9.

Well for starters Kane is not a tall utility or awkward. His kicking does let him down though.

I think if i remeber at the time i was hoping Geelong would take Kepler.
tall utility was in reference to Bradley I'd say.

Before I say this Im not in anyway comparing atm because Kepler has still alot of development in him but is anyone a little worried we may (not saying we have) picked up another Bolton?

Its a very harsh call but just some of the signs like poor disposal, inability to hold down a KP (still early to judge on that though).

Lets settle him down in a position and stop f--king him around, we may see what he really has to offer.

I started this thread on 1 May 2006 and was widely attacked by all and sundry. I have since resisted the temptation but can no longer.

After his disgraceful 2nd half and in particular his last 15 minutes where he sunk to new lows, I have to say "I TOLD YOU SO !!"

The bloke is useless, in fact worse than useless, he has become Jonathon Hay like.

Sadly we won't get the any sort of trade for him anymore, as the whole football world has now realised how terrible he is.

fletch took 5 years.

That's incorrect.
Fletch was a good player from the moment he step foot on the MCG versus Carlton.Sure he may have had a period where he retreated in form a bit, but held his spot the whole way through.

Bradley is a good player out of form as well. Fletch always had it in him but took some time to be a superstar. Bradley may not reach Fletch's level but he deserves more time, it is hard when we are losing week in week out, although a stint at Bendigo wouldn't do him much harm at all.

I reckon Bradley will be a very good player for us. I've seen enough good things from him. He needs a year or two more and he'll be a permament and reliable fixture down back.

Even though his kicking looks awkward it still seems to hit targets. Wonder what the stats say.

Still only 20 for a KP. Will come good.

Darren Glass was drafted at pick 11, is now 25 years old and only in the last two seasons has established himself as an elite defender.

Ben Rutten is 23 and only emerged last season at th e age of 22.

Kepler is still only 20 and is ahead of these two players in terms of development at the same stage.

Lets burn our kids....

He's 20 years old. Reads the play fairly well and will only get better.

Next you'll be saying get rid of Ryder because he constantly gets beaten in the ruck??
