We picked the wrong guy.

Naitanui did some absolutely fantastic things tonight in the last quarter. His ability to turn it on and excite is something to drool over.

But with that said, his first three quarter were terrible, but i guess that just shows the inconsistency he has at a young age. If he can turn it on like that for a 4 quarter performance he will be amazing.

With Watts, keep him in for the rest of the year, injury / mental exhaustion permitting. He will be able to train full time with the team for the next two weeks due to school holidays. He showed some good signs tonight, his one handed contested mark was great. Shame he didn't finish it off.

Ok, go back to thread pre-draft last year. I was one of the few (may have been alone) on this forum arguing that Natanui was the only logical pick. The reasoning was simple. If we took Natanui last year, Watts wouldn't have nominated for the draft (didn't want to go to WA) and we would likley have finished last this season (we're a certainty atm) and could have picked up Watts at the end of this year along with Scully. We'd then have both Watts and Naita, with Scully.

I am feeling vindicated at the moment. I like the look of Watts (that one handed grab tonight was brilliant and he moves well), don't get me wrong. But I'd rather have had both of them.

Way to early to call drafting decisions yet. Who knows how good any of the players from the draft will be. You just have to trust your recruiting department it's what they get paid for. I think Watts will be a star anyway.

The point is, it isn't too early. It wasn't too early last year.

We could have had both of them, we chose to take only Watts. It was a **** up, a big one.

I'm not sure who will be better out of Watts and Natanui, but I know I'd rather have both of them on my team than just one of them.

I should ignore the ridiculousness of saying 'we picked the wrong guy' after 3 games but nonetheless, in Jacks defence :

Jack Watts would be INELIGIBLE is this years draft rules were in place last year. He would be too young.

To give some perspective:

Tom Scully and Jack Trengrove are only 6 weeks younger than Watts. Butcher 4 months. Anthony Morabito 7 months.

Watts would (as many are aware but seem to forget) be eligible to play in the TAC right now if he didn't nominate for the draft last year. He is younger than many players in the TAC right now.

Judge them in 5-6 years. And to all the knockers/trolls/fools: pay our Jack now whilst you can- in 5 years he'll be dominating the competition and you'll be ashamed you ever second guessed his selection.

With all the negativity going around, we really don't need this.

Watts will be a superstar, give it time. I'm impatient much like the majority of us but, give the guy a break. I feel the same heartbreak you do but...1 player doesn't make a team. When the team starts playing well and begin to back younger players such as Watts, I'm sure he will contribute and live up to the potential and hype surrounding him. When the whole team is playing with their heads down, what can you possibly expect him to do? Watts is NOT a dud...It's just the team he's running around with at the moment. Wait till we start winning, Watts' true potential will show and everyone will regret their comments. Watts will be a GUN!

You cannot judge an 18 year old schoolboy on 3 AFL games where the team as a whole got slaughtered. Let's not forget, he's STILL at school. He's not use to playing top level footy yet, but come next year with a full pre-season and 100% commitment to the game, I'm sure your opinions will change along with the medias'

Watts .... LIKE %98 OF ALL 18 YEAR OLDS PLAYING TOP LEVEL FOOTBALL ... will develop into a great player, the signs are all there ...

SO F**K OFF AND SUPPORT THE KID

Well said and I think another Melbourne supporter said, we should be supporting Jack. Completely concur with both. As I posted on the AFL board, Jack Watts shouldn't be the focus of the barbs because he didn't choose to go No 1, he was chosen. Give him space, let him develop.

I don't understand the need for player comparisons, because each individual is different and unique. Heopfully we enjoy both performing at a very high level in the years to come. :thumbsu:

I looked at the thread title and assumed this was about dean Bailey. If it was about him I agree. This garbage can't continue. The players aren't even playing for themselves let alone the coach. Leave Jack watts out if this.

As a West Coast supporter I do just want to thank you for picking Watts over Naita in the draft.

Both will be superstars for their clubs, so I don't think Melbourne picked the wrong guy (so don't let your posters bag him, like many of our less educated posters have been bagging Masten).

But with Jack's obvious reluctance to leave Victoria, we either would have taken Rich or been royally screwed by Watts in a couple of years time, Judas-style.

Everybody wins this way. And if you ever feel jealous of our big Nick, console yourselves with this - we're all mighty pissed off that you guys stole Bennell and Jetta from us!

i think over the span of their careers watts will be the more solid player.

nic nat will be erratic, he has x factor but wont always contribute other then getting the tap in the ruck which wont necessarily be too advantage. watts will be like Roo, consistent hard working foward, no need to worry.

its like comparing rich to hill, rich's body is more developed so of course he will have a bigger impact, but in the long term whos to say the more skillful player in Hill, wont be the better player.

Can this thread please be closed as we don't need trolls on our board?

Please refrain from posting such crap again.

I completely agree with the call for this topic to be closed and its author brought to account in some form.

There are enough moronic trolls being posted about Watts and about MFC by certain people (albeit a small number of people, over and over) on the main board and on Bay 13 lately, without having to put up with them on our own board.

natanui will be as good as hird, shows that match winning x-factor ability...

watts should serve the club well, hes 17 ffs.

I love watching Naita and hope he's a superstar, but it is ****ING RIDICULOUS to say we picked the wrong guy.

Wait 5 years then we can start to judge.

I know were you are coming from I initially want him as No.1 also but we need to be patient with Watts, not bitch about who we didn't get

These posts. Don't doubt it. I seem to recall a bit of Morton bagging last year and look how that's turning out. It's the same with Masten, he's only starting to shine through now (even though he's obviously limited from OP still). Give it time, Watts will get there, he's a baby FFS.

Keep the thread open, so that it's easy to identify the truly dimwitted.

Melb. drafted for 5 years down the track, not 3 weeks.

As an aside, when there are those ridiculous polls in papers like the HS, you know the type of poll - "should Julian Knight ever be freed" - and the results are 38,000 voting no, but there's always 1300 flogs voting yes, well I've come to the conclusion that the minority in such polls must gravitate to BF.

Yes thats right I wanted him all along.

We should've picked Naitanui ahead of Watts, he's the freak that we will forever regret, he just won WCE the game in sheer brilliance.

It was only time till someone started this thread.
Careful what you say Deto.. These people are feral. But i totally agree. :thumbsu::thumbsu:
