Now that i've slept and i'm not absolutely pissed off like i was last night, i'm still happy with our choice. Nat will be a great player (albeit erratic) but i'm very confident that Watts will be better.

They both have an abundance of talent, the only difference is that Naitanui is able to show that as he has a body ready for AFL footy whilst Watts is still getting pushed around (which is what you would expect from a schoolboy playing amongst men).

Ever since Watts has been in we have been royally smashed every game. Pretty hard for him to have any sort of influence.

Let's hope he stays in next week, as it should be a much easier game then Collingwood, Essendon or Brisbane at the GABBA.

Don't group us with you.

be careful Dez, Cheney is dangerous!

That's just what i think Headless you ****en cocksuker.. If you wanna be ****en smart about it lets meet somewhere so i can kick the living shit out of you, you ****en peice of shit..

Thems the words of dangerous, psychotic, tough animal of a man that could crush mere mortals such as ourselves!

Hilarious thread, all the more hilarious when Watts becomes better.

Which he will. He will become a more consistent player a la Pavlich and Riewoldt which Melbourne needs. Just remember Nait had 2 touches prior to those goals, which were because of the wind, not that brilliant due to the footy being in his lap the entire quarter.

Jack has improved each of his 3 games. Took a great contested mark last night, and i remember seeing a brilliant pick up with one hand on the run. Sure he sprayed it, but was class for someone 196cm. When he has the muscle, the skills and confidence, look out competition.

Anybody forgetting he is the 3rd youngest AFL listed player? And THE YOUNGEST key position player? Playing in the bottom side with the worst fwd delivery possible?

Spot on. I've said it before and will say it a million times again before the end of the year. Watts is one of the youngest players in the AFL and is a KPF...

Rich is realy the player that is putting preasure on Jack. He is ready made and has steped in to a good midfield unit. Jack is playing in a rabble...

Plus i get the feeling the guys aren't looking for him. Maybe rightfully so. But in the 2 games he's played in vic there were plenty of times he was in space fat side and we kicked it down the line to Robbo.

He didn't do much last night but he did show some silky skills here and there. With experience and more bulk this kid will be a star no doubt and IMO better then Nicnat who could end up being a flash in the pan.

This guy will be Watt's main competition from the top 10

but Melbourne needed a forward no one will complain about not taking him.

Correct.

Lets put all of thi in perspective Rich left school at the end of 2007 and has been a profesional footballer since. His body and footy smarts are testimate to this. Jack is a bottom age player who is/was midway through exams and was playing school football only 3 months ago.

The best thing for Jack will be one more week in the seniors (and maybe a win) then back to Scorps where he will cut it up. He will be all over the speed and strength required at that level, and ready to come back R21-22 with a bucket load of confidance.

Let me start straight off the bat that I never wanted Watts and wouldve preferred Rich or Naitanui.

Having siad that who cares if Watts is going shit now, everyone else in our team is. Whats crucial is he comes good when we (if we ever) come good. We could have Rich, an already made player but we still wouldnt win the flag. Naitanui is a dynamo but his performance so far are a bit overrated IMO. He could be anything, but lets see them all get to 50 games first.

I'm willing to give Watts time before we all make these ridiculous statements

I was watching the game when he kicked those 3 goals and i thought the same, but then i thought hold on, he was virtually unsighted the whole game until then.

I think its fair to say that nicky nat is better than watts at this current time.

Watts is still soft, small, lanky and still in school.

Give him a few years, then we can judge.

We push to many players back in our game plan meaning we have no real opportunity for our forwards like Watts and Jurrah, especially when their leads are ignored and players kick the ball to that dud robbo so he can try a speccy every time and f**k it.

The thing about NikNat last night is that the Dorks didn't see the need to tag him because they didn't think he could do them damage until it was too late. Not unreasonable considering his first 3 qtrs. He simply got under their guard.

Jack's under pressure most times he gets the ball, even at this age he seems to always have one of the better defenders of the other team on his shoulder. Jack should be able to take the opposition's 4th or 5th defender, yet in his 3 games he's usually had one of the top 3.

IMHO both Jack & NikNat are going to have to learn to deal with defenders playing tight at some stage. Jack's getting a real education in this at the outset of his career, and frankly I can't remember ever having seen an 18yo in their first few games have to deal with this in 40+ years of watching footy.

The other thing is that NikNat seems to have been given licence by WC to "just go for it". WC don't seem to mind too much if at this stage in his career he doesn't do much during a game; he's in the team to show something special every now & again.

Perhaps it's about time Jack was given a similar licence to "just go for it", especially whenever he's in scoring range. He (like all our young players) seems to have been instructed to look for one of the senior players in a better position.

I think they are both great kids and will be elite players before not too long. NikNat has been given the downhill run at this stage, while Jack is being asked to do it the hard way, all uphill. It's ridiculous to say that the one riding downhill is better than the one riding uphill - wait until they're being treated similarly by their teams and by their opposing teams, FFS!

Keep the thread open, so that it's easy to identify the truly dimwitted.

Melb. drafted for 5 years down the track, not 3 weeks.

As an aside, when there are those ridiculous polls in papers like the HS, you know the type of poll - "should Julian Knight ever be freed" - and the results are 38,000 voting no, but there's always 1300 flogs voting yes, well I've come to the conclusion that the minority in such polls must gravitate to BF.

All good points Trav... I wonder if DN & Cheney were amongst those 'Yes' voters?

That is a particularly insightful and observant post.:thumbsu:

Well of course, those points are absolutely right. You've made some very intelligent and sensible comments since you've been on the board Amarula.

Glad to see we're all on the same page here- except for those who are perhaps about to be erased from the book, such as Cheney and DetoNat...

Ahh, I beg to differ.

While I'm in the same school of thought that it's ridiculous to compare the two so early on, some pretty unfair statements were made about Naita there.

The thing about NikNat last night is that the Dorks didn't see the need to tag him because they didn't think he could do them damage until it was too late. Not unreasonable considering his first 3 qtrs. He simply got under their guard.

Firstly.. the Hawks didn't think to tag him? Tag him? He's in his 2nd game! And he's a ruckman! And it's pretty hard for the most noticeable player in the AFL to get under the opposition's guard. He turned that game with his ability, not from any fault of the Hawks.

The other thing is that NikNat seems to have been given licence by WC to "just go for it". WC don't seem to mind too much if at this stage in his career he doesn't do much during a game; he's in the team to show something special every now & again.

And Watts isn't?

If anything, Watts is the downhill skier. Naitanui is being given far greater responsiblity.

In his 2nd game, Naitanui was asked to be the only recognized ruckman in the team, with Cox injured and the selection committee declining to bring in Seaby to help him out. He performed with absolute aplomb, with a several of fantastic hitouts, including one that directly resulted in a goal. This was before he was moved to FF in the last - when he's far from a natural forward - and won us the game.

Ridiculous thread

he will be a star.. i am impressed by the people who barrack for other clubs and have posted in this thread.. it seems they have more faith in our boy then half of our own supporters.. give the kid time.. he is the 3rd youngest player in the afl!!

Agreed Cooko- kudos to those fans of other clubs who posted on this topic, and good on them. All of them have made sensible, thoughtful, high-quality contributions to a thread badly in need of such postings.

Hhahahaha, that's funny Dez i must admit. But definatly not me.

Personally, I'm picturing something more like Comic Book Guy on the other side of that computer, but with a lower IQ...
