Yes and no. Yes due to Quaynor points etc but also no in terms of being able to conjure a different deal that could of left our 2019 1st rounder in tact.
It was a "lazy" deal at best which they thought sheep would buy up the : "Quaynor gonna cost us so really it only cost" line.
Really we spent 2 firsts to procure a 29 yo midfielder (in a stacked midfield of which his type wasn't a need) who is struggling to process the loss of his father.
That Quaynor first should of been enough and at worst to help BrisVegas save face we could of came to the table with a 2nd in 2019. Outside that the Quaynor first could of been used as trade bait else where.
I think Dayne Beams can still play some great footy but imo it was a hefty price for the ass end of someones career.
Here you want an example of a trade that maximises our pick in 2018 with 2019 pick would of usurped this for a likely top 2 pick in 2019:
Imo whether we had or not had Dayne this year would make little difference in our standing.
except the first wasn’t really first so it’s only 1. If you follow me

With live trading in effect for the first time, Carlton shipped next year’s first-round pick to Adelaide, who gave up pick No. 19 on Thursday night and their own first-round pick next year.
