I can quite easily come up with at least 100 expetives (spelling)
im guessing it would have been all stantons fualt?? and how bellchambers should have been playing?

after NOT jumping the gun and watching the whole game through i belive essendon are finals contenders... with carlton week one and not having to play interstate suits the dons. anything can happen.... but to start pointing the finger before the game is even over shows where your at...

Yeah that was a game of self preservation.

Pathetic for 3 quarters, but at least we didn't lose, and noone was injured.

Let's not dwell on it too long.

Exactly right. It is a game we should not over analyse. We were poor but I was never worried about the result. Had it have been a game we needed to win, it would have been completely different. About 4 or 5 players will need to play for Bendigo to get some more game time and hopefully get some form.

Excuse me? Want to put any more words into my mouth much.

I blame no individual for todays performance but all of them. Yeah we won but we could just as easily have lost. I just don't think we are in a position where we should be taking any games lightly we need to be having good solid wins as often as we can to build confidence.

I am hoping the only reason they might not have gone all out is to avoid injuries. Even still, a close win against a team we have such a bad record against and who have been playing the worst footy I have seen in years irks me.

I hope 100 % they turn it around in 2 weeks.

no just hate it when ppl go premature... i was planing on turning on sen to hear the excuses after the game but was wrapped yous guys won..
yous have not beaten port adelaide in 5 games so regardless of ladder position they may have had a bit of confidence going into the game.. yous guyss will be huge underdogs against essendon but are a very good chance.. 3rd final in 12 years against that mob and its 1 a piece so yous are a decent chance

I'm a little underwhelmed with the performance, but guys... we won. The 4 points weren't even relevant in the grander scheme of things as our position on the ladder was pretty much set in stone.

It was nowhere near our best football and we only played 25 minutes of decent football (10 minutes in the second, 15 minutes in the final quarter) and still come away with a positive result against a side who had won their previous 13 of 14 games against us.

We can relax over the BYE weekend now, coming off a win and knowing who we will be playing in Week One of the finals as our opponent is forced into a likely taxing and bruising encounter with a finals hardened St Kilda who will be looking to win for a home final. We also know how much better we can play, especially given the likely inclusions for that first final and the opportunity to rest a few niggles.

It's all up from here... and this is coming from somebody who is usually the biggest pessimist around.

It was our team playing not yours so you can't see things the same way as us...do you think I was worried when Eagles were down against Brisbane last night? I was happy the Eagles won too.

We were losing to the bottom team who have played really bad this year. I am happy they played a good game (Port) and actually put in a bit of effort for the first time in weeks but I am not happy it happened against us. This is why I imagine many of us would have been going to a bit feral during the game. I am sure you wouldn't be too impressed if the Eagles were in the same position as what we were today.

Good post. I have calmed down somewhat now and am looking forward to the game against Carlton. They will be the rightful favourites and so they should be as they have had a much better season than us but as long as we try for 4 quarters I don't think any of us will be complaining regardless of the result.

I'm not sure how it looked on TV but at the game it was crystal clear the boys just didn't give a shit about getting the footy.

Didn't go in hard for most contests, didn't chase, didn't plug the holes.

Take nothing from this game. They won't be playing like that during finals so lets not panic just yet.

Unfortunately you can't see this on tv which is why it is frustrating.

OK! before anyone continues with the shit canning, could you please qualify your post as to whether you were there to support our guys at the start of your post? Thank you.

I was there and we were shit but for about 15 mins that won us the game. The Power were harshly done by the umps.

20 minutes of work wins a dead rubber game.

They were resoundingly crap throughout, but the fact that they had the fortitude to not be humiliated, and kick 7 unanswered goals to win, is promising.

Port haven't played that well since the Richmond game anyway. They're a bogey side for a reason: they just love playing us.

still can't believe you guys are putting a positive spin on this game. we turned up half way through the last quarter. it was abysmal, disgraceful and against any other team we would have lost.

although we did the impossible - we played Port back into form

sorry.. I'm not looking at the big picture? the big picture is we're gonna get slaughtered in the finals. don't care who calls me a negative nancy, I'm commenting on the game we played and what's gonna happen.

Yep immature performance on the back of knowing that we didn't need to win, very disapointing, but well fought out.

Port were bound to play well sometime. Don't take anything away from them because they really came to play and it was very clear who wanted it more today. They were very good for 3 quarters and they put a lot of pressure on our midfield which lead to turnovers and poor F50 entries. They had their zone working well too and we struggled to work around the numbers they dropped back.

Yeah we were flat but put that down to knowing we couldn't fall out of the 8. Win + no injuries + no reports = good.

There's one thing a lot of you are overlooking in the emotions of such a lackluster performance.

That is, it's a sign of a maturing football team that we can hang in there when struggling and believe in ourselves enough to get back and win. Will hold us in good stead down the track the way we have hung in there in many games this year.

Two things come out of todays game.

- WC were flat against Brisbane - 29 points down at the 20 minute mark of the third quarter - And just got home - We were flat all day.

- An insipid performance by our defenders - Outside of Heppell and Hardingham - They were crap - one on work was deplorable.

Good thing is that the coaches kept Hurley forward - He eventually won us the game.

Serious work needs to be done on our team defence - We still concede too many points.
