Simple.

If it's best for the team because of his poor form then he gets dropped (highly unlikely they would pull the trigger though).

Media explanation is simply that...he was dropped on performance.

If he has a good QF of course he should get picked for the next game.
There is a genuine reason for dropping him against GWS. We saw how well he did against genuine KPFs against Essendon. And he is in a form slump.

A backline of Talia/Hartigan/Keath with Smith playing that "Interceptor" role will be a better set up.

In form Lever could take Jeremy Cameron I reckon. Hartigan to Lobbe, Talia to Patton.

Can some one please enlighten me on a very simple question?

If lever decides to walk he is uncontracted and can go to any club he wants right and we have no say and get nothing out of it?

I hope they don't. There has been a number of cases where deals have blown up or players have copped a heap of abuse from their current club's supporters after it came out they were leaving at the end of the year.
He's already copping abuse at home games.

No, he can't walk to another club because he is not a UFA.

The only way he can get to another club is:

1. Via a trade - Adelaide and the club Lever have to agree to the terms of the trade and Lever have to agree to go to that club.
2. Via the draft - Lever can nominate for the ND or PSD (with a contract term and price on his head). Adelaide get nothing, but Lever runs the risk of ending up at Brisbane or GC.
3. As a delisting - If Adelaide were to delist Lever he becomes a UFA and can walk to free to another club. There is no chance of this happening.

What he's copping now would be incomparable to what would happen if players could sign with other clubs mid-season and it was announced Lever had signed a contract with Melbourne for the following season.

He'd be booed as loud as Tippett was 2 weeks ago every time he went near the ball and there would be a heap of media pressure on the club to drop him.

Yes, I think the PSD is a pretty empty threat. What is the threat? "Pay up or we send him to the PSD and another club will get him for nothing".

OK - so he goes to the PSD with a (say) price of $800K x 5 years on his head.
Brisbane & Gold Coast - if they even bother to keep a pick for the PSD - will one of them take him? Will they stump up $800K x 5 years for a third tall defender who doesn't want to be there? What - with the idea that they can on-trade him for a profit 1-2 years later? Assuming that a Vic club (of Lever's choice) will still be willing to pay up at that time?

I don't think so. I think threatening "Brisbane or Gold Coast in the PSD" is an empty threat. OK, then you've got North and Carlton, so maybe one of them would be silly enough. Then Freo, then Collingwood - and now we're getting to the point where one of the contenders for his signature could pick him up for free.

The only way he goes to the PSD, IMO, is if Melbourne/Collingwood or whoever make a ridiculously low/stupid trade offer. Which won't happen. They'll offer something decent. It may not be enough to satisfy Crows supporters, but it'll be enough to make the PSD a non-starter.
You could only use it if you had a guaranteed buyer on the line

The thing I've never been certain is how some players are in the national draft (eg Luke Ball) and others in the PSD (eg Nick Stevens). How is that decided?

Yeah I Just googled and think I found the answer to my own question.

If we match the offer from the club that wants him then he can either re sign with us or we work out a trade with the club or he goes in to the draft.

I think if he wants out we will obviously match the offer then. I think we should try and get involved with the Ablett to Geelong trade. That's a trade that both other clubs want done and we hold a trump card that wants out.

You're reading the free agent rules. Lever is not a free agent.

Something like.. (this is very rough idea and only thought of for 5 mins, I'm sure the list managers could do much better..)

Bulldogs have the best offer so we match it. Ablett wants out from Gold Coast and Geelong want him back but don't want to pay much.

So we give lever to bulldogs , redpath goes to Gold Coast, Ablett goes to Geelong and we get Motlop and Menzel cos menzels coming back one way or another.

Any flaws in that scenario other than possibly disagreeing with the players chosen?

No. He's a not a free agent. If a trade can't be agreed to then we can send him to the draft

Whether or not those are the exact players I think this is a trade scenario that could benefit all clubs involved if we get involved with the Ablett and Geelong trade.

Gold Coast don't want to lose a heap of money for what was a top player , and bulldogs will have to give up a top player if we are to do a trade with them for lever. So that takes care of gold coasts needs and bulldogs desire to get lever. All that's left is for Geelong to offer up something for Ablett , and this scenario suits them better than paying off a player at Gold Coast like they are talking about doing.

I think I just solved it guys :D

Then we can just decide whether we would prefer the direct trade of whatever bulldogs are offering for lever, or if we would prefer what Geelong are prepared to give up for Ablett.

There is no go home factor for Lever, the decision is pure $$$$

I was told last night the club is more disappointed with Jake's backflip and at least with Danger the club always knew that their was a go home factor playing out with his partner and family

Jake himself earlier in the year wanted to talk to Pykey and told him that he not only wanted to stay but also wanted to be a future leader of the club and he trusted that the deal would get done before end of year

In this case a club is willing to pay way over market rates and money talks
If this is true you can't play him. Will create more issues with the group, if it's filtering to us it's filtering to the players.
Can't have sorry Jake.

How many here would be calling for that player to be dropped and get some finals experience into a player who wants to stay.
would be the same nufties that are currently calling for him to be dropped/fired/castrated chemically/sent to columbia for not making a decison. **** them

Levers career will go down the toilet developing down at Pies or Melbourne.
Very poor decision IMO, but he's got himself to blame. He will get smacked as a 1st/2nd tall defender.
haha, dumb dumb decision
whose his manager?
Well he wants money not success, thats why he's leaving. Doesn't want a flag.

Just wonder if anyone knows the answer to a couple of questions I have always wanted to know.
Can a player nominate a contract term and amount before the draft and if so why don't all 17 year olds go down this path with a club?
Can a player nominate just for PSD?
And can clubs trade PSD picks?
