So if he's worth a player just inside the top 10, why wouldn't we be asking for that for Lever?

Given Melbourne are likely to finish somewhere in the top 8, which men's the pick will be worse and they get Lever for an extra year, why wouldn't they be required to offer something more?
Unfortunately wanting and getting are 2 different things.......UNCONTRACTED

I'd settle for next year's 1st and Christian Salem right now.

Latest story doing the rounds is a three way trade with Melbourne and Freo. Lever to Melbourne, Hogan to Freo and Freo first round pick (currently 5) to the Crows. Crows the. Use current first round pick and our second for Gibbs.

Thoughts?

I think the Dees are mad for trading Hogan, but if he's gonna leave, you may as well use him to get Lever and keep your own draft picks to get a replacement for him.

So would I, I think.

But if it's only 1 first and a player, then we have to push for that first to be 2018. They can't say "but it's 2018, it's going to be a great draft, we will miss out on a great player".

They are getting a great player, one who is still extremely young but an already developed player. It's a massive win for them, they don't have to go through the development.

Plus they would be getting Lever for 2018, whilst we wait.

given they're going to be pretty late its not bad, but I still feel like Gibbs is a little long in the tooth to be dolling out that sort of currency.

we're not obligated to look after him just because he wants to get out of a long contract he's now thinking better of... if we want a ready-made mid I'd be buying a younger one with pick 5 and our first.

agree with this, I'm happy to transfer as much value as possible into next year's draft, once you've got multiple picks in that you can always think about trading them up once we know what they are too.

Had a great discussion about lever this afternoon,

Don't be fooled by his poker face, his is torn about his direction that is yet to be finalised
That would all be good if you were having this discussion with Lever himself...

That would be a great deal for us in my opinion. Salem started the season really well and played very well in the demon's win against us. He was taken pick 9 and in my opinion he looks like he will live up to that. He would also be a really good replacement for Smith in the short term.

Why have you suggested this? Usually you seem to suggest that vic metro players wont come to Adelaide. Anything different about Salem that suggests he is both gettable and willing to come.

Over paying for Gibbs IMO. I think our first and nothing more.

There are suggestions he along with Watts may be available.....I've liked him ever since seeing at U18 level......top end talent that hasn't quite been realised yet. He's one I'd take the gamble on to come on in leaps and bounds....would be a steal if he meets his potential.

Supposedly, Hogan is leaving every year.

Considering he's contracted until the end of 2019 what do you think the chances are ?

I wouldn't waste any more thoughts on it.

This is almost playing out exactly like Phil Davis in the end.

Draft a quality defender with our 1st round pick, describe them as a "future captain" of the club, then they both leave for the biggest offer they can get.
Didn't we end up with brouch and brown from Phil?

Hope it plays out exactly the same!

Watts I'll never be sold on but Salem is a lovely kick and has pace but I still question his hardness. Where would he play in our team though Bicks? I just not sure he's too different from players we already have like Atkins.
