the "whoops" is in case we pissed him off and he wanted to stay with us

it's looking less and less likely
Isn't this why players pay the big bucks to their player agents?

Player agent receives contract that's way below value, has a good laugh about it with Justin Reid and says "alright Reid, go away and come back with a serious offer..." and at the same time leaks that unnamed Melbourne club has offered $1M a year.

He then says to Jake "their offer was low, but no worries it's Adelaide, they always do this and will come back with more. You worry about your football, I'll get you a good deal."

Adelaide are clearly taking a very professional, business type approach to contracts and essentially forcing the player agents to earn their keep. Now is this the right way? Perhaps not, but if Jakes not staying because of this, then he's better off leaving. Similar to talks that he spat the chewie about having to come back from injury through the SANFL. IF any of these things are true, he needs to harden up a little.

Personally I think it's all about Jake receiving a stupidly high offer which allows him to return home.

Plenty of smoke out there that they will, Lever isn't just going to walk into your club. You want Lever you need to pony up.

Salem played 16 times for the Demons in 2017, averaging 21.4 disposals, 4.6 marks and 3.8 rebound 50s a game.

Wallace says the Crows could be part of the reason Salem’s name has popped up in the past 24 hours, believing they could be targeting the Demon as ready-made replacement for Brodie Smith, who will miss the majority of the 2018 season after rupturing his ACL last week.

“Sometimes you need to give something to get something,” the former coach said.

“Doesn’t he fit with Brodie Smith? I just think it’s bang, he goes straight into the structure of their side.

Watts and Salem and 2 number one draft picks. Ok, I'll let him go.

I'm aware of the rumours, but doubt them. They stem from Brian Waldron. Wallace is just parroting Waldron's tweet and making sense of it.

There's no way you'd get pick 10 plus Salem. More likely it would be 27 plus Salem.

But I don't think Salem will be involved in any trade.

I'll wager that he couldn't care less.
I disagree I reckon.

He's ultimately just a kid who's taking advice from every angle. I genuinely don't think he knows what he's doing and will regret leaving.

I reckon, based on no evidence, that he was told by his dad and his manager that is normal to chase the dollars, everyone's doing it now.

Now that he's seen that that isn't true, I reckon he would be feeling conflicted.

I actually don't blame a kid for making bad decisions, I blame his advisors.

We would never accept Salem and 27.

Well, we shouldn't accept that, although our traders are notorious at accepting unders

So with Kelly re-signing with GWS, this makes Lever the out and out number 1 player going into the trade period. North Melbourne probably are, and should, feel utterly embarrassed right now. They could save some face by getting Stringer, but I think they would view it as a major coup to get Lever from under the noses of Melbourne and Collingwood, not to mention St Kilda who might be quietly in the mix too.

I have a feeling that North will be willing to match Melbourne's salary offer because they can easily front load this without affecting their long term TPP. Which means that it will be all about the trade. With North having pick 4 this puts the pressure on Melbourne to come up with something that satisfies.

We are going to ask for two first rounders, but you would think if pick 4 is in the mix then North's 2018 first might be asking a little too much. I would think that pick 4 + pick 21 would get it done, but I would prefer Salem + pick 10. Even better would be Salem + 2018 first.

I agree with you that he is probably getting poor advice and will definitely regret leaving.

Will Ben Buckley want to wait that long. Moves for Kelly and Dusty strike me as similar as the marquee approach that they take in the A league. Will he settle for Lever? Hopefully.

They have to start now, they have virtually nothing. They should take whatever's available.
Too bad he won't go there. Why go to North for only a little extra coin which will be a chithole for a long time when you can go to Melbourne which has light at the end of the tunnel.

If he has spat the dummy because of an initial low ball offer, then he is definitely not Captain material and shows lack of character and fortitude and therefore not really a good clubman either.

Alternately, he had no real intention of staying in Adelaide and this is just a lame excuse to move on.

I hope Lever was watching AFL360 tonight, they asked Richardson about Kelly staying. He said the Saints thought he would stay because Kelly felt he owed the club, he's a good character and so is his family.
As soon as it was reported he decided to leave based on the first offer from the AFC, that told everyone he was low in character.

Very childish to have a hissy fit over a first round offer.

I still hope he stays and sees the light that he is on a much better wicket at the Crows but as days pass, it doesn't look good.

At one point in the season North had the exciting list. He will go where the money is.
To whom ?

Don't dismiss the MCG factor.

10 years at Etihad, or 10 years rocking up to the G ?

It's a no brainer. Especially when one team is heading south and the other has genuine elite young talent.

In many ways I hope he stays. I don't like young players walking out on their clubs.

The more and more we hear about lever the more and more he sounds like dangerfield.
