You are gonna need pick 1 or 2 for Rankine at this stage. So ask yourself, why would any other team give us the pick and then they miss out on Rankine?
The only way we get it is if we fluke a future first rounder from a team that isnt expected to finish bottom but do.
We aint getting Rankine. We could trade out Gov, CC and Lever and still not get the currency for the pick to get him with. At least not with our list management team doing the dealing.
Id say...try the deal on port... low risk for them since they will think they are top 4 again next year!!

When thinking about trade value picks this year you need to understand the strength ( or lack thereof) of this draft

Hypothetical - an 18 yo Lever enters this draft - he's pick 2

Nothing short of collingwoods pick 6 is a starting point , if later than that it better be the 2018 draft

How will the 2018 draft help us in the now?
What's the point of getting a player who is less talented than Galluci with pick 6 , 7 or 8 . That's not helping us now

The best thing to do is go for a good player and hope the trading club does it . Unlikely that clubs will want to lose a good player for Lever however

If we can't afford lever, how would we afford Kelly?

If i had a choice, id rather trade for no one and just keep Lever McGovern and Cc

On SM-G930F using BigFooty.com mobile app

Lever might have priced himself out of our team, if our perception of his value is much lower than what he is being offered good luck to him. It doesn't mean we can't afford him, it might just be we don't want to match crazy offers.

If I had the choice I'd keep Gov and put a large offer in front of an A grade mid.

And from Don's body language he knows he's gone too, actually if the truth be known I reckon Don's pissed right off that it's taking the focus away from the team and the Finals.
I agree that Don is royally pissed.

I wonder if his annoyance could extend to going in with 3 talls, Talia, Hartigan and Keath, for the finals and Jakey misses out!!

Only a 1% chance but Lever wouldn't want a shocker to test his patience if the other boys perform.

He's right to be pissed. He knows chances don't come often, and you gotta be solely focussed on job in hand

Agree. I wouldn't discount the prospect of Jake being left out if Don thought it was disrupting the club and more importantly the players.......Oh to be a fly on the wall.

The problem with saying "player X isn't worth $$$ so we should let him go" is that the player managers know what players are on and roughly how much salary cap is spare, and can use the fact that player X is leaving to get a better deal for the rest of the players they manage at that club. The salary cap we have spare, the "warchest" if you like, is then eroded due to overpaying the rest of our players.

We could be offering McGovern and Lever $500k each, but McGovern's manager knows if Lever goes, then we might pay up to $800k to keep Gov out of sheer desperation. And vice versa.

There could be a game of "who blinks first?" going on between the two players/managers. I doubt we'll lose both but we'll have to cough up a lot to keep whichever one decides to stay (probably Gov). Similar to Davis and Tex back in 2011.

I know Levers gone but i thought Mcgovern would have signed by now.
Me too :'(

The combo of Gov's spike in performance, great body language on field with the team and the rumours of his signing had me feeling very confident.

It's dropping about 10% a day now though!

By this time next week I'm popping him in the Leaver basket.

Wouldn't read much into performance or body language on the field. Dangerfield won the B&F on his way out the door.
