Do you mean 10 is the amount that SA should be producing each year, or do you expect 10 kids to get drafted from SA? You'll be sorely disappointed on draft day if you think there'll be 10 from SA going. Mature aged SANFL players like Salter might bump the SA number up, but from the kids I imagine it'll be about 4 or 5.

I'm thinking around 8-10 S.A draftees this year. But yes compared to previous years SA is looking very thin.

I'm tipping a few second chance players will bump the numbers up to 8-10..

58. Adelaide – John Walker

Early season he was a run-of-the-mill tall defender. He was one of a batch of elegant running backmen in the very traditional Murray style. Then midseason he went ruckroving and put together some 20+ touch games and showed some very slick handballing highlighted by some sharp vision. The scouts would have all had to reassess him. His work at CHF in the finals was best ignored. Every club wants a 190cm+ ruck-rover and Walker will be a candidate for that role.

i think you will find that walker started the year at CHF and was then moved to the wing. im pretty sure the grand final was his only real game in the backline for the year with the bushies. great prospect though

27. Adelaide - Jarrad Grant

Now Ben Reid was an outside key forward who played like a wingman and never threatened to go near a contest. He got drafted super-early and looks a natural for the Demetriou Netball League.

Maybe I have misunderstood your point on Reid Weaver. Reid's attack at the ball is fearless. In fact considering his weight it’s stupid.

Enjoyed the profiles though.

His attack on the footy this year has been very good. If you'd watched him last year then you would have had your doubts about his intensity......credit to him to turn it around though

I have heard the same thing about Goldsack as well. Its hard to believe watching both this year that there could have been any doubts on their respective attacks at the contest.

The most interesting phantom draft on BF (apologies to TOA whom I thought also did a great job).

Doubt Bulldogs would let Grant slip outside of the top 19 (despite the rumours, Gaetner has got to be an even money pick if Grant isn't 5), but this does seem like the most "tell it like it is" PD out there.

Have to admit the reading after pick 30 does become interesting - specific examples of the general consensus that late.

Great read weaver:thumbsu: Liked your straight to the point comments. Some interestng positions for some players but who the **** knows:D

I agree, personally really enjoy Weavers efforts as they are always different to consensus opinion. Although it must be said that just because somoene is different, doesnt mean they are right. Weaver's PD is slightly different because it incorporates how he rates players into his decision where they could end up. Alot of other phantom drafts just predict where a bloke will be drafted based on club needs, types they have drafted in the past etc.

not quite. most people rehash others ideas, and pretend to have knowledge they do not. team needs my arse. just crappy copy and paste jobs.

it's a fallacy to think anyone is right; which means criticism of not being right is equally misguided.

I like weavers because he presents something new, with good understanding and logic behind it. The fact that Josh Kennedy did not go no.1 in 2005 does nothing to diminish the excellent work contained.

truth be told, I like yours for the same reason. if I learn something, or BELIEVE I have learned something, then it's all good :thumbsu:

If the Crows go with the defense obsession suggested here, I'm going out to buy a truck load of paint. Watching that dry should keep me busy enough to avoid having to watch a single Crows game all season. Fair dinkum, we're boring enough without adding more defense. Pretty soon the only time we will score at all is rushing behinds for the opposition.:o

Good read once again weave

Jarred Boumann at pick 51 for the tiges is interesting...Like the look of this young fellow.....once he fills out, a kid at 196 and growing who can play both ends and is VERY quick over 20 mtrs [i think he ran 2.85 at the state screening] could be a good pick up or rookie for us.. Thoughts?

What I like about Weavers phantom drafts is that their always original. He doesn't always get them right (pretty good though) but NO ONE does, not even most recruiting managers (Miller).

Everyone now is on Grant and off Gourdis, but you've stuck true to your guns and what you initially believed in your mid year rankings. You didn't bring Grant down from no where into the top 20 and kept with Gourdis. You actually know your stuff!

Great job Weaver, love your work!

Okay I'll say it because no-one else has yet ;) 11 of your top 40 were no shows. Ouch.

I did like your write up on Browne though. And if it makes you feel any better out of my top 36 I only got 29 drafted.

Tough gig being a recruiter.

If you are making a draft, you have to have some accuracy for it to have any credibility!

Big variations in terms of Grant (always going to be pick 5 for the Doggies), Gourdis and Arrowsmith (early picks according to you but didnt even get in after 75 picks), and Masten hardly got the recognition he deserved. Etc. etc.

You also over-rated Palmer and didnt give enough praise to Henderson.

People need to recognise that the best players will get picked, not positional players to suit their needs! These best players will have experience in a number of positions throughout their junior footy and their skills will be able to suit a variety of roles appropriately,
eg. Kreuzer, big man with good weight who can play as a ruckman-midfielder, moving into a key position, especially in forwardline, ready-made footballer ready to start now!

I love this ready made description of Kreuzer.

There is no such thing as a ready made Ruckman, no matter how good he is when he's younger.

If Carlton put Kreuzer in Rnd 1, then expect him to get beaten pillar to post, and the insults will reign down when he's only getting 7-8 touches a game, and around 10 hitsouts.

If your happy with that output, then you may as well look forward to next years draft, as you wont be close to finals football.

A year of VFL, with less than 5 AFL games would be appropriate.

You definitely underestimate how hard it is to do a phantom draft. Have a go next year and see how you go.

Have a look where he made his mistakes. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Weaver based in Victoria? If so surely you can understand getting the WA boys wrong. How does a Victorian judge Gourdis who murders the draft camp is a good size and was good in the Carnival?

Like wise Palmer. I hadn't even heard of the kid before the U18 Carnival and then you find out he has been ripping up the WAFL all year and he puts on an absolute clinic.

Henderson hasn't played all freakin year, how do you rate him?

That leaves Gaetner, Grant and Arrowsmith and I distinctly remember Weaver saying these will be the most argued over players in the draft and it was very hard to rate them.

Gourdis at 5 and Gaertner at 9 are the obvious ones that stands out, amazing how people rated them so highly yet he didnt get picked up.

34. Geelong – Clayton Hinkley

I can’t see the consensus that he is poorly skilled, I think he uses the ball well by foot and was a very good finals campaigner despite a pesky injury just 3 weeks out. Tested extremely well which should vault him up the order – guys who do well in the 20m sprints simply don’t get overlooked in a sport that emphasizes speed. Is good enough in close to find himself some space. Can run-off a tagger. Sets up goals and shapes as a handy wingman, not quite Higgins class but not a hundred miles behind.

nice pick up Weaver. Haven't seen this guy in too many PDs, he seems to have flown under the radar on here

how did you go?

clown

Did your short attention span not enable you to finish my entire post?
