But yeah the thought of Sturt being in the AFL these days is delusional, likewise thoughts of Norwood being there.
Personally I'm glad. I love my SANFL footy and would hate to have to travel interstate to be at every game or having to pay $22 to see my team.
Footnote: When the WCE and Brisbane entered the league in 87, the SANFL's anti-VFL stance was steadfast at the time and there were people who thought SA were many years off fielding a team. There were clandestine moves to sneak a team into the VFL, before Port's bid. Sturt were in a precarious position finacially at the time and there were rumours floating around of several business people wanting to buy the club and move up a level. Sturt's move to the Adelaide Oval for home games two years previous also made them seem a 'good' choice. Luckily it ended up only being a pipe dream in a few peoples minds.
I am hoping that SA will NOT get a 3rd AFL team. There's no way that Adelaide can support 3 teams and although predicted when the Crows and then Port entered the AFL, it really would be the death knell for the currently viable SANFL.
