sorry everyone - just a quick note to tell you all that somethign happened to MountMistake's server and I lost the site :(

Fortunately I had it all on disc and moved it onto one of the free servers :)

So here it is again: MountMistake - Mach 2

Remember, I am always looking for new addittions to the favourite players section and am also keen to get some others onboard to maybe write match reports or have their own doggies opinion column or something!

Sorry for the inconvienace to anyone that may have been trying to access it (probably weren't but doesn't matter lol).
Cheers,

It takes it name from the road just behind the scoreboard at the old Western Oval and in front of the Rising Sun Hotel. Not sure if anyone else, picked up on the significance of it but that's what a lot of the older Footscray supporters I talk to call it and they suggested it might make for a good website name - so thats what I named it.

Can any other doggies fans tell me if I am correct in my thinking or have I made a huge blunder? I wasn't sure if the name was well known or not - but I won't be changing it either way lol so it doesn't matter!

Naming of Mt Mistake

It was named Mt Mistake because it was thought by everybody but the builders and the council to be a mistake to put tjhe overpass in that position.

The Geelong Road overpass in this position goes over the railway line, Gordon Street, Cross Street and it messed up that other street that used to go past the hotel into Buckley Street and the Footscray baths.

It left a jumbled mistake of roads and rail lines. I haven't been to Melbourne for 14 years and can scarsely remember the names of the streets. I believe that the traffic around Mt Mistake has now been changed substantially since the 1950's when I think that Mt Mistake was built.

I have some vague recollection of the time when Mt Mistake wasn't there.

It would be nice for somebody to get the history of this overpass.

Mount Mistake has been there as long as I can recollect. It was, I believe, originally called Mt Mistake because it was supposed to have been built as an underpass under the railway line. Imagine what an underpass would be like in this day and age! The original Mt Mistake had iron sides so people couldn't jump over. It did not originally effect the Rising Sun hotel as it does now. Traffic came straight out of there onto Geelong Road. In retrospect, Mt Mistake turned out to be just the right thing to build!! :)

Just a bit more news: there's a forum up and running on the site now (courtesy of footyonline.com) So register if you want, not much action there so far though.

There will be more action as the season comes near. I have posted a question about the Bulldogs finals expections in the MountMistake/Bulldogs forum though...

cheers...
