Weddle is on my list of top 5 players in the league i would want at Carlton.

Nic Martin wouldn't come close to making my top 50.

I expect this to be a considerably one sided poll.

Yoda_ expects it to be one sided too.

It's just that he thinks anyone who would say Weddle is the better player is deluded.

Was that posted in the delusional pearlers thread on the Essendon board ?

With all due respect to Martin, who was a decent Cat B rookie pick up Essendon i believe, there is a reason Hawthorn traded up to draft Weddle and trusted him with probably their most famous and historic number in their club's history

Takes great contested marks, courageous as it gets and best of all, can play both ends of the ground.

Still only 21.

The Ceiling on Weddle is limitless, suspect he is in line for a massive pay day/contract extension in the off season from the Hawks

Its not a great sign, that before opening the thread I had no idea who Weddle was being compared to. I can't see a scenario as to why anyone would vote Nic Martin

Weddle surely has to be in the list along with Naicos and Darcy as a top 5 most valuable young prospect in the game (through Murphy Reid in there)

Extraordinary how he fell to pick 18 in his draft year..

I am only taking Ashcroft and lineball Bailey Humphrey in a revisited 2022 National Draft.

And there is some very good/solid players taken ahead of him like Ginbey, Cadman etc
but Weddle's versatility and ability to play anywhere reminds me of Prime Kouta in his amazing run from 1999-2001

Frankly I am astonished and bit annoyed the media don't talk Weddle up enough (at this moment in time)

He is going to be a match up nightmare for Chris Scott in the Prelim

FWIW, are we talking about the here and now or potential cause both could be very, very different results

The gap only gets significantly larger if we're talking about potential.

Weddle is the one.

This is a really good point, Strapping Young Lad should have been clearer and probably should have created two polls to question both output now and future potential.

Just for clarity, Weddle would be my choice in both polls by the length of the flemington straight.

You claimed on the Drafts board that no one would take Weddle over Martin when a poster said all 17 other clubs would.

Here and now, in the future, whatever.

No back peddling at all.

Probably just club bias to our own. Im
Happy with Marto

If Essendon offered Nic Martin in a trade for Weddle, you would have to add this year's and your first rounder in 2026 and Hawthorn would still say a firm no.

Weddle is simply a big game player like a couple of other celebrated Hawthorn champions who wore number #23

No backpedalling? You claimed it was only deluded Hawks that would take Weddle.

Has comedy festival started cause this is right up there

Who'd I take? I'd rather be coach and ask:

  • O'Connor to take Weddle. 5 - 6 touches.
  • Mullin to take Martin. Might literally disappear.

Problem solved.
