Posted this on the other thread, maybe here is more appropriate...

Anyone heading over by road looking to break your journey before hitting Melbourne I can recommend the "quaint" Sparrows Café in Beaufort, best coffee in town, freshly baked bread baked on the premises, apple and cinnamon muffins to die for, their "big" breakfast will test the biggest eaters, excellent local wines and ales etc, 50 metres on the right the Melbourne side of the traffic lights in the old "heritage" Beaufort Motors building and if your into antiques and old wares the "Big Garage" next door is well worth spending a half hour or so browsing around.

Traffic condition #1 - Victorian speed limit is 100 and not 110. They ******* love it!

Actually between Murray Bridge and Tailem.....no one. I suspect when we get further along and there is only one lane we will see a bigger convoy.

Late warning!! Just out of Coonalpyn...the mother of all potholes - left wheel track. Ffffuuuuuuuuuuu...... Do yourself a favour and miss it!! Also small section of road Vic side of border can't remember exactly where - when the temp road sign says 80...that ain't slow enough. If you hit this patch at 80 you will actually be flying as one!! Jeeeeezzzuzzz!

Pretty quiet on the roads actually. Seems the only people we see are crows supporters though. We've just passed Nhill.

Cops setting up at the entrance of small towns and nabbing people as the limit comes down to 80/60. Seen 2 people get done - very unfair. But beware.

If you want to save yourselves a speeding fine between Ararat and Beaufort stick to the speed limit when you see the "DOBIE" sign about 10 kms the Melbourne side of Ararat, favourite haunt of the Ararat constabulary and they just luuurve taking Croweaters money!!
