A similar mix to 2017, when five interstate teams played finals (2 from SA, 2 from NSW, none from Queensland) and Geelong accompanied two Melbourne teams. And Adelaide-Geelong finished 1-2.

The peak was 2003 when all six non-Victorian teams played finals.

We played in 2017. That EF with double overtime vs Port at the AO, Shuey kicking the winner after the siren, is the best non grand final finals game/win we've ever played.

Correct, although it's not quite as bad as when that happens against a Melbourne-based team. In that situation the "home" final becomes far easier to attend for our opposition.

This has been the case since the league started in 1897. Finals are not home games.

Not necessarily. I guarantee you that at a GWS or Gold Coast home final against Collingwood, Collingwood fans would outnumber the home team fans.

Friday night - Loser Crows/pies v winner giants/ hawks
Saturday night - Loser cats/lions v winner dockers/suns

But I also get the 40,000 v 100,000 capacity point too.

Using this logic GWS v Hawthorn should be at the SCG. I’m with Geelong on this, it’s just a bullshit rule to fill the AFL’s coffers and appease the MCC.

The 1 v 4 and 5 v 8 match up is easily the most interesting pairing imo. Collingwood clearly have the wood over Adelaide and the Giants have never lost to Hawthorn in Sydney (in fact the Hawks have never won at the Showgrounds).

And depending on the results the SF will feature another bogey team. On the other side of the draw, I feel the winner of the 2 v 3 final probably wins the flag. My tip is that Geel v BL will probably play off in the GF anyway (ala 2005/06, 2015, 2018)

They overestimate home ground advantage. The Dockers were paying $3 last Sunday. Brisbane at undefeated at the MCG this year too.

And it isn't a real home ground advantage anyway. No non Vic team should have fears about playing Geelong at the G. Adelaide at AO, that's a proper home ground advantage.

Cats should get to play at GMHBA. WB/Saints should get to play at Marvel. And the Grand Final should be played at the highest ranking teams home ground.

It depends if you value $ over fairness.

Despite their consistent bragging over this, oddly I still want them to pop their AFL premiership cherry (if Geelong can't). The 2013 flex is a cover up for their lack of actual success, after all. I don't think they should be admonished for it.

Order should be that but I would guess the Saturday game will be twilight, allows the visitor to fly home that night if they win, which will be handy ahead of a Friday prelim

From memory I think they usually just have friday/Saturday night games 2nd week and then a twilight prelim on the following Saturday.

Bit harsh. It does tend to pop to mind whenever a Geelong home final is referred to.

Supply and demand. Giants struggle to fill their 20k stadium even for finals. If there was sufficient demand the game would be moved to a larger stadium.
