Ok guys so this is the final attempt before the draft. Again had a go at doing a top 50 (with brief descriptions for the top 10). Anyway I've tried to include bids, etc. where they may fall.
Hopefully I've done your side justice, please let me know if you think there's a particular type of player your team may be after (if I've missed it) and I'll adjust it accordingly at some point.
Pick 1 – Essendon – Hugh McCluggage
Still seems to be a 3 horse race between McCluggage, McGrath and Setterfield. Personally think McCluggage fills the greatest need for the Bombers as a goal-kicking fielder, though Bomber fans will get a gun player regardless of which of the 3 is called out on draft night.
Pick 2 – Greater Western Sydney – Andrew McGrath
This pick will ultimately depend on what the Bombers do at Pick 1, if he makes it through GWS will snatch McGrath as the view for them seems to be that he would be an ideal replacement for Heath Shaw. If McGrath is taken by Essendon they may look to Ben Ainsworth or Tim Taranto.
Pick 3 – Brisbane – Ben Ainsworth
They may also look at Lions supporter Sam Petrevski-Seton here, but given Ainsworth has expressed a desire to play for the Lions they’d be foolish to overlook him given their retention issues in recent years. Fills a requirement as well, as a tough small-forward/midfielder. Again depending what happens with the first two picks they could see Hugh McCluggage slide to them.
Pick 4 – Gold Coast – Tim Taranto
They could also go for Will Brodie here, though I think Taranto’s scoreboard impact and output series sees him win out here. Will likely start off as a high half-forward but will eventually move into the midfield full-time.
Pick 5 – Gold Coast – Jack Bowes (bid by Carlton matched)
Think the Blues will bid on Bowes here with Gold Coast most definitely matching. He could also be bid on by the Lions given he is a Queenslander and there would be no “go home”. Adds class and ball-winning ability to the Suns midfield. Will be a key player for them going forward given the losses of Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia, as well as Gary Ablett not far from retirement (or from moving back to the Cats if the rumours are true).
Pick 6 – Greater Western Sydney – Will Setterfield (bid by Carlton matched)
Think SOS would have a fair idea about Setterfield after his time with GWS, and I anticipate he’d bid on him year. Setterfield adds to what is an already frighteningly talented midfield group at the Giants.
Pick 7 – Carlton – Sam Petrevski-Seton
While they could go after Will Brodie here to help Cripps out on the inside, SPS probably fills a slightly greater need for the Blues given their lack of outside run and carry in the midfield. Plenty of inside grunt available later in the draft as well.
Pick 8 – Fremantle – Griffin Logue
Tim English would have to be considered here, as would Sam Petrevski-Seton (if available) but I think Logue fits the Dockers needs to a tee. They need a key defender to take over from the likes of Michael Johnson and teachers pet Zac Dawson.
Pick 9 – Gold Coast – Will Brodie
If he makes it this far Brodie would be an ideal selection for the Suns, given they need to rebuild their midfield once again. He was touted as a top 5 selection earlier in the year, however injuries and a drop in form sees him fall to the Suns.
Pick 10 – Sydney – Jy Simpkin
If Griffin Logue is available I fully expect the Swans to jump at him here, but Simpkin fills a hole in the Swans list with his speed and class through the midfield and up forward.
Pick 11 – Gold Coast – Tim English
Pick 12 – North Melbourne – Oliver Florent
Pick 13 – West Coast – Jack Scrimshaw
Pick 14 – Greater Western Sydney – Harry Perryman (bid by Adelaide matched)
Pick 15 – Adelaide – Daniel Venables
Pick 16 – Port Adelaide – Jarrod Berry
Pick 17 – Brisbane – Shai Bolton
Pick 18 – Port Adelaide – Will Hayward
Pick 19 – Western Bulldogs – Todd Marshall
Pick 20 – Sydney – Alex Witherden
Pick 21 – Essendon – Josh Battle
Pick 22 – Brisbane – Jordan Gallucci
Pick 23 – Brisbane – Sam Powell-Pepper
Pick 24 – St Kilda – Josh Rotham
Pick 25 – Greater Western Sydney – Harrison Macreadie (bid by Geelong matched)
Pick 26 – Geelong – Brennan Cox
Pick 27 – Carlton – Patrick Kerr
Pick 28 – Greater Western Sydney – Zach Sproule (bid by Western Bulldogs matched)
Pick 29 – Western Bulldogs – Jordan Ridley
Pick 30 – Richmond – Jonty Scharenberg
Pick 31 – Collingwood – Ryan Garthwaite (bid not matched by Greater Western Sydney)
Pick 32 – Essendon – Josh Begley
Pick 33 – Port Adelaide – Willem Drew
Pick 34 – Port Adelaide – Jack Graham
Pick 35 – North Melbourne – Cedric Cox
Pick 36 – Collingwood – Callum Brown (matched bid by North Melbourne)

Pick 40 – St Kilda – Brendan Parfitt

Pick 46 – Geelong – Corey Lyons
Pick 47 – Adelaide – Sam Walker
Pick 48 – Sydney – Bailey Morrish
