Can someone explain how 2 norfies having an argument about exactly how crap norf are is an amazing coincidence? I would have thought it was simply acknowledging reality, which, while I accept it is a first in quite a while, it's not really an amazing football coincidence.

Apparently Lindsay used the word 'brother' 8 times in his 12th place acceptance speech at the B&F.

So...North bigfooty are attempting another shutdown of any 'honesty' regarding him.

It's a coincidence because everytime Lindsay brings the club, the game or himself into disrepute, they all scramble about to see who can deny reality the most.

Here are some interesting coincidences between AFL teams and history:

Carlton played in the Grand Final in each year in the 20th century that Halley's Comet was visible from Earth (1910 & 1986) - and lost both times. I guess the Blues' 2062 team might forlornly watch their GF opponents hold the cup aloft.

Collingwood have played in the Grand Final each year there was a change of British monarch. When there were only kings involved, Collingwood won in 1910 (Edward VII - George V) and 1936 (George V - Edward VIII - George VI), but lost when there was a change in queen in both 1901 (Victoria - Edward VII) and 1952 (George VI - Elizabeth II).

Essendon won the premiership the year the Titanic sank in 1912, and won it again in 1985 when the wreck was found deep in the North Atlantic.

Melbourne like Olympic years, winning premierships in 1900, 1948, 1956, 1960 & 1964. They also won in 1940 when the Olympics were cancelled due to WW2, and the Dees' only GF appearances since 1964 also took place in the Olympic years of 1988 & 2000.

Hawthorn won the premiership when Bob Hawke became Prime Minister in 1983, and the Hawks won it again when Hawke left the office in 1991.

South Melbourne lost the GF to Carlton in 1914 the year WW1 commenced, and the Swans again were beaten by the Blues when WW2 ended in 1945. South Melbourne were triumphant in 1918 when WW1 ended over Collingwood, with the Magpies also losing the 1939 GF to Melbourne when WW2 broke out.

North Melbourne do well when the Liberals win in Federal Politics. In 1975, the Labour Whitlam Government was sacked by Governor General John Kerr, with Liberal leader Malcolm Fraser installed as Prime Minister and the Kangaroos won their first premiership. North were premiers again in 1977 when the Fraser Government won the Federal Election, and North triumphed again in 1996 when the John Howard-led Liberals defeated the Keating government. In 1998, John Howard's Liberals again won over Labor but North were runners up; however this election was brought forward from its scheduled date of 1999 - when North won their most recent premiership to date.

No, I was aware of port being minor premiers. But 2006, west coast were minor premiers. For the pattern to hold, 06 needed to be 2 or 3 (or perhaps 4-8). 2005-2002 also fit the pattern, i.e. Swans not mp, port mp, lions not, lions not, but 2001 again the lions weren't minor premier. I guess, if you started in 2002, before this year, only 2006 didn't fit the pattern.

I've got one..

This year an interstate and non-footy-heartland modern powerhouse (with most recent premiership won in 2012) won the minor premiership and played the side with the longest current premiership drought in the competition in the decider. The side with the drought hadn't even been in the GF, let alone won the premiership, for decades, and they were at serious crossroads only 2 years ago. The interstate side went in as favourites, but were losing for a good portion of the first 3 quarters of the match. Nevertheless, it was anyone's game with 10 minutes to go. But the underdog would strike back to end up breaking the drought and complete the fairytale.

In 2016 North Melbourne started the season with 9 consecutive wins but won just 3 of their last 13 to slump to a 12-10 record, again finishing in 8th position. They were flogged by 62 points in their only final in Adelaide.
