We have an actual weird footy tradition in our house...

We had to stop the kids eating all the chips during the footy, so we told them they could only eat one every time a goal was scored. During some of our worse form slumps this obviously was not enough chips - so we added when the ball was bounced at the start of the quarter - then we also decided the end of the quarter.

So now, at least 10 years after it started ...
  • One new pack of Sour Cream and Chives Pringles is opened just before the bounce
  • a chip is assigned to all those watching the WHOLE game for the bounce, and a secondary chip for the first goal
  • it is customary to balance the chip waiting to be eaten on your knee
  • Attempt to actually bite the chip as the ball is bounced to start each quarter
  • After any goal by your team high five ALL other chip eaters and eat your chip - you will then be allocated a new chip for next goal
  • At the end of the quarter a call of "Eat your chip" by the chip dealer allows for final chip to be consumed.
  • If you finish all whole chips and get down to broken bits, it is at the discretion of the chip dealer as to who gets the bigger pieces
  • If your team is getting smashed in the final term and there is no way out, it is ok to grab a handful of chips and give them out followed by "eat them, we're stuffed"
When we attend games and follow the above rules we get a few sideways looks, but the tradition continues.
