just a funny place i passed yesterday was DICK LIQUOR in st kilda... and funniest name i have heard is TOOTH FAIRY.....
 
none of these are from footy, but we got some funny names in my neck of the woods too...starting with one of the three gridiron teams in my hometown. This team, which didn't exist until about 7 years ago, calls itself the Threat. No, I'm not kidding.
Then there's some odd ones in America's high schools and unis:
-over in Zeeland, Michigan, the two high schools are the East Chix and West Dux. Chix came from the city being "the chick capital of the world" or something or other, and West just opened a few years ago, apparently they wanted to keep the misspelled bird name theme
-Waukesha, Wisconsin has the South Blackshirts. Nothing to do with Mussolini, it actually started as an insult because they couldn't afford red jerseys and had to settle for black during the depression.
-Pekin, Illinois, takes its name from an old spelling of Beijing because allegedly, Pekin is almost exactly opposite Beijing, as far as coordinates go. Pekin High's teams used to be called the Chinks, though they changed to Dragons in 1980.
-There's a small college in Georgia called Life. Yes, that's the school's acutal name. Their teams are the Running Eagles.
-two semipro teams out east, the Clinton (Mass.) Fighting Irish and Maine Blizzard decided to merge a few years back, 2000 to be exact. The merged club is based in Clinton, and evidently it was decided to combine the two names, producing the Irish Blizzard.
-Devils Lake HS in North Dakota used to take its cue from the town's name, calling its teams the Satans. Folks who evidently didn't get the humor in it all managed to get Satans changed to Firebirds.
-even if their teams go winless, Cesar Chaves HS in Arizona can boast about its teams being Champions anyway...yeah, their nick's the Champions.
-some baseballers at Delta State in Mississippi saw their mascot, a Statesman, walk by and the consensus was he wasn't very intimidating. While hashing out ideas for a better mascot, someone suggested okra. Yes, okra...because it's green, Southern and ugly...anyways, the baseball players began using okra cheers at DSU basketball games, and it caught on, so now the nickname's the Fighting Okra
-Virginia Tech Hokies aka Gobblers...the latter name represented by the Hokie Bird, which is basically a modified turkey. "Hokie" was part of a cheer a student came up with in the 1890s, IIRC.
-all yall Noarlunga fans are gonna appreciate this one...Teutopolis High in Illinois, known as the Wooden Shoes, as one of the coaches wanted a unique name, and some decades before, there was a German fella in Teutopolis who happened to make wooden shoes.
-Webb High in Texas does Teutopolis one better, they call their teams the Feet.
-another merger, this one a high school in Oregon. Weston Athena and McEwen merged, and decided to do the same with their mascots, creating the Weston-McEwen TigerScots.
-West Plains HS in Missouri turned a well-liked teacher's catchphrase into their nickname, the Zizzers.
-for three years, Yuma HS in Arizona used an abandoned prison as its school, and due to this, its athletes are Criminals
-over in Milwaukee, Pius XI is one of the best-known private schools. Naturally, in honor of the school namesake's profession, Pius' teams are the Popes.
-fans of Rob & Big are probably gonna love this one...in the early 40s, Point Pleasant High in West Virginia wore all black uniforms, and although officialy they're the Black Knights, ever since then most folks call em the Big Blacks
-Sleepy Hollow, NY, is best known as the setting of Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The high school's teams, fittingly, are the Headless Horsemen.
-Aspen is world famous as a skiing destination. Its high school, naturally, uses the moniker "Skiers"
-the Chicago area has some odd ones...Mount Carmel Caravan, Marshall Commandos and Dunbar Mightymen come to mind
-Grambling, Lousiana, is best known for its university, the Grambling Tigers. The local high school, also named Grambling, decided to stick with the tiger theme, adopting the nickname "Kittens." Heh, seemed like a good idea at the time.
-Hickman High in Missouri was getting beat in a football game back in the 20s, but continued to fight on. Depending on who you ask, the players either kept bouncing back or were smiliing like Kewpie dolls, and "Kewpies" stuck.
-Hollywood (yeah, THAT Hollywood) High takes its nickname, Sheiks, from a role once played by Rudolph Valentino
-Lake Preston is best known for having the first diving board in South Dakota.the high school's athletes are known as the Divers.
-Manitowoc Lincoln (Wisconsin) Ships...Manty, as we call the town for short, is known for its shipbuilding...now if they'd just let the rest of us know whether they wanna be Manty or Lincoln...but I digress.
-Notre Dame HS Nikes (Iowa)...yeh, not named after the shoes, but it's more fun to think so :D
-Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns...Louisiana has a lot of Cajuns
-North Carolina School of the Arts Fighting Pickles...evidently they weren't expecting to actually need a mascot.
-Hamilton (Nebraska) Aliens...recently, this college changed its nickname to "Wrecking Crew"
-Indiana-Purdue Indianapolis...their official nick's the Jaguars, but their acronym, IUPUI, has lent them another nickname, Ooey-Pooey :D
-Converse College , a women's college in South Carolina, uses the nickname All-Stars. Take a wild guess why. ;)
