It's the same with charities, NGOs and all manner of organisations. You get rich, you start to believe that you're naturally smarter and more alpha than everyone else and that your decision making skills are impeccable. My wife was a lawyer, I know people who are on boards and even one of her bosses was a AFL footy club president. It takes a certain type of person. Not all are bad but there is definitely a personality type.
If you are Glen who operates the local fish and chip shop you aren't even getting in the door. The ones outside the stereotype are usually ex players who are corporate henchmen or toadies that vote for the big boss' pet projects.
