Welcome Back Jacob Surjan - SANFL Senior Coach

I think we have landed on this:

Senior- Carr
Mids- Dew
Backs- Webster
Forwards- Reaves
Stoppage, contest and opposition- Hartlett
Rucks- Lobee
Director of coaching- Colins
Maggies- Surjan

Surjan guided North to two grand finals, and won a premiership as reserves coach. Lost the 2022 grand final by 1 point and was the Tiser's coach of the year.

Don't know what broke down for him at North and have read a few rumours here, but he is a proper sanfl coach and hopefully will be allowed to coach to win and not just fit into some oddball gameplan.

Surj was pissing in Carr's ear for months about coming back. Things have clearly changed because he was initially earmarked for a role with the Academy. I guess the Goldsack move sparked a chain reaction.

It's ok to admit you were mistaken.

Regardless of what we think of their individual credentials, etc, nice to see the AFL program have 6 coaches now, compared to only 4 this year (or did that Rob Mason guy count as one too?). We really needed a more credentialed and resourced team around Carr and glad it happened.
Surj knows the SANFL well too, so no issues with that appointment, particularly this late in the piece.

I've deliberately not said anything for quite a while now, in large part due to posts like this. Alas, here goes:

I was told about Surj and the academy (replacing Westhoff) months ago.

The Goldsack thing literally happened last week which took the club off guard and they had to move some pieces around. Hartlett was earmarked for an AFL role quite a while back (as I'm sure I wrote on here) in the event that they couldn't get their preferred interstate targets to join the club. The timing of the Goldsack deal made things difficult from the Club's perspective to do much more than internal rearrangements, not that I agree with it.

If you are so blissfully unaware to think that this was the plan all along however, you're kidding yourself.

It's a vast upgrade on the previous group, and given they have so many different coaching backgrounds, it should be quite an expansion of ideas brought to the table.
