Maxwell actually had 4 numbers IIRC... 41, 43, 27, 5
Was there a reason he went up from 41 to 43? Seems a bit odd.

But great news to have him back, always enjoyed watching him play.

I wonder if Tadgh Kenelly coming back after a year out was a factor.
And he's younger than Kenelly so should be a gun.

Not very happy we spent pick 25

He better not crack the sads like last time and walked out when he can not get a game

If Elliott wasnt involved i would be pretty filthy trading pick 25 for Clarke.

Dont rate him and he is a fringe player at best. Lets hope he doesnt crack the shits and go home again.

You would think Hine has a list rating the best prospects in this years draft, looked at who he rated the highest from draftees that have already been eligible (Elliot) and gone out to get him for a pretty good deal...

Clarke will be a good acquisition, as will Elliot, worth pick 25 in a poor draft.

So excited for him to be back at the club, long term solution to BJ's inevitable retirement, and will be a great contributor. Best 22 is looking bloody hard to crack right now.

happy with him coming back, i think he will get more games next year then most people think. Bucks rates players with damaging disposal.

Marty Clarke is untapped potential

In his 1st year 2007 he sizzled in the PF which was the hottest match of the year. He is easily best 22 on potential. 2 years away will have toughened him and should have a more realistic outlook on the world

He left to become a teacher and follow up on love as I remember. Maybe home wasn't all he remembered. Being a professional sportsman is a great gig and doesn't last long. He knows that now

Very happy to see him back

Great interview.

It shows, which most people seem to not take account into, that Marty has matured in the past 2 years and has now realised what a privilige it is to play AFL for Collingwood.

I just read the interview, and it reinforced my belief that getting Marty Clarke back to this club is a great move.

He seems wiser, and speaks about how he wants to take up a leadership role, especially in regards to the 2 young irish boys we will have at the club next year.

It seems as if Hine has laid down the law to him also, stating that this is not a short term deal, and I'd say we sought a commitment from Marty long term before even considering the trade.

Marty's back, and I'm happy.:thumbsu:

Not excited by Clarke... i was angry when he left and now he is back i don't think he deserves to play for us again and then giving away our first pick in the national draft is insulting.

If you dab a little lanolin on your tissues your nose won't get all red and puffy.

Spot on - was about to write almost exactly the same thing. The fact that Hine laid down the law to him and he is now looking at playing footy as a career has dispelled any concern I have about him doing another runner. The fact he also will fulfil a mentor role with our two other young Irishmen strengthens his desire to be at Collingwood. All signs are pointing in the right direction.

In my opinion draft picks can be easily overrated and I can't help get the impression that some of our supporter base is annoyed at not being heavily involved in the excitement of draft day yet again.

Trust in Hine. Trust in Bucks.

For those with any doubt over Marty, here's more reinforcement, even Mick Malthouse, who had what is now a quoted falling out with Marty before he left, has given him a massive tick of approval on his return.

"He's a ripping young bloke. Marty Clarke is one of those blokes you just love having around, he's a delightful young man," Malthouse told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.

"I wouldn't call it a punt, he's played close to 50 games and it's not as if he's been inactive. He's been playing at the highest level you possibly can in Ireland and quite frankly I don't think we understand this, but he's a superstar over there. He really is an absolute superstar.

"There's been a lot of people suggesting he may struggle, but I see it the other way. I think his maturity will bring him back (better)."

:)

The thing I take out of this is possibly that Mick doesn't want to make the Collingwood footy club an enemy and still wants to retain relationships there and support the club and the boys externally.
To a degree he might just not be completely expanding on his thoughts on Marty - as he did in his book (which I haven't read - but very keen to get my hands on). Then just felt that because of the timing that it would not be appropriate to talk about his issues with Marty.
Maybe I'm reading into it too much. But none the less this wouldn't surprise me.

The unfinished business issue is an interesting one for him to bring up.
Marty is a competitor so I wouldn't be surprised to see it. But hopefully that is in 6/7 years time once he finishes his AFL career.

It was a little annoying hearing Mick say Marty wanted to come back to the club last year. I take it he wasn't prepared to sign however, I remember during the International Rules series Malthouse and the Pies players were talking to him regularly. Good to hear Malthouse's recent comments on him however.

Damn if we got Marty last year I think we could have gotten him for free on a spot in the rookie list.

Marty Clarke would not have come back if we told him he would be on the rookie list last year or even this year.

He left when he was a senior player on the senior list and he is returning for the opportunity to play seniors again- something the rookie list doesn't provide. Oh, it also doesn't pay as well being a rookie.
