I've been getting ongoing, repeated "server did not respond" or "The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain" errors since Friday night. Have tried on multiple computers with different platforms (Chrome, IE, Tapa, etc) and also tried using two different ISPs but keep getting the same error messages, and am lucky if 1 thread per half hour actually connects. This continues with both repeat viewing of older threads (that I have viewed once or twice before over the last week) and with any attempt to view brand new threads. PMing is also very interrupted - it can take 8 or 9 goes to send the "conversation" - and sometimes only part of the text goes through. Any suggestions or is this just something that comes with the new BF format? Also - the team portals (which had the links to news stories via google) don't work anymore - is this just temporary or are the old pages (I think they were called "portals"?) gone forever? Finally, what the heck is the stupid "get clicky" button - I thought as Platinum members we weren't supposed to have to put up with ads? That button alone seems to take ages to load...

Have tried on multiple computers with different platforms (Chrome, IE, Tapa, etc) and also tried using two different ISPs but keep getting the same error messages, and am lucky if 1 thread per half hour actually connects. That sounds unusual. I haven't had those problems, and I haven't heard of anyone else having them. If you need Chief to answer your questions you need to tag him in your post, otherwise he won't see it.

The 'Get Clicky' button isn't an ad, it's a web analytics plugin. Gives us more information about usage trends, browsing statistics, etc.

It's a scraper site.

They've tried to have it shut down, but the host is based in China or something so they haven't had much luck.

Thanks Caesar (and congrats on the sailing threads too - great to know that there are a few others on here that follow the sport outside the America's Cup - and excellent results too, I just hope they don't chop the NSW sailing training program).

Since I posted my issues, the refresh rate has suddenly improved, and almost all of the problems I was having have gone away - though the PMing is still very patchy and the portals don't work.

As to tagging Chief, sorry, I didn't realise he was the only person who could solve problems, I will do that in future.

I still object to the "get clicky" button, if you really need an analytics plugin there are other less obtrusive, faster to load and more efficient approaches. Would also have thought that Platinum members could at least be given the option to pay extra to avoid having to put up with such a button. Much like promotional emails, I'd have thought we could at least be given the choice of opting out of such stats collection.

Anyway, the problems I was having have eased markedly in the last hour, even on IE (!!) things have improved dramatically, I will let you (and Chief) know if the issues recur.

General site queries, most any super or admin can answer.

I think the GetClicky button is part of the plugin, so we don't really have a choice about whether you see it or not. It shouldn't really be taking ages to load - that sounds strange. It's just a little link.

I've been having that problem too. I've listed it here twice, including a post where I tagged Chief so he would respond. I've still had nothing back, so clearly I have to go back to paying a subscription to be heard.

In the last hour or so all user tags seem to be defaulted to have the "at" symbol in front of the name. Was that just an automatic update by techies or was it by choice Chief? It just seems odd, is all.

a) Is it still happening?

b) Could you contact your ISP and see if it is a problem at their end?

c) Clicky is a stats system. The fact it takes ages to load tells me there is something pretty wrong in the chain between BF and you. I'd run a complete anti-virus check and talk to your ISP.

d) We're going to do something different with the portals.

Hey Chief , thanks for the response.

It hasn't happened since about 10:30/11pm Tuesday night. I'll let you know if it recurs, hopefully it doesn't. It started last Friday (a week ago) and was very persistent until after my post on here (the exchange above with the Sailing Ceaser shows the rough timeframe for when it got better).

As I mentioned, I used two different ISPs and had exactly the same problem. I contacted both and both advised that the problem was at the BF server end (phone only though, so I have no written details for you, or any diagnostic logs).

I also have several different layers of antivirus and firewalls - and ran a number of full system checks as soon as it happened - so it isn't on my local hardware or software.

I still don't like the clicky stuff - I'd have preferred if we at least were formally notified that stats were being collected on us, and if so what they would be used for/released to.

Interested to see where you go with the portals - I did like the old clean basic layout, but that sort of news summary can also be used in lots of interesting different layouts/pages, good luck with it. Until they re-appear, I've set up my own set of search/links/feeds, so I should be OK - I just won't be driving BF stats higher unfortunately...

Chief you might remember that I was maybe the first to raise the continual 'server failed to respond' problem when posting or editing. I know ODN for one on our board has complained about the same thing. Despite a state of the art new computer the same thing continues to happen MORE OFTEN THAN NOT and I have to try again/repost after receiving the error message. I think it always succeeds on the second try (and centres everything on the page - that must be a clue for your IT boys) but it is dam annoying and pretty much negates all the improvements of the new format

Chief, we just have to solve this error message problem that plenty of people are experiencing. I post a lot and truly MORE OFTEN THAN NOT I have to resend after getting the error message - it is bloody annoying. I am trying to be more observant about it and I am pretty sure that what happens is that I hit POST REPLY, then get Unable to retrieve blah blah blah Error message, notice that page has become Centre aligned, hit POST REPLY again and it is posted. There has to be a connection to the Centering

ps And yet when it works first time it does not centre align the page

Have you tried different browsers, different computers, different connections? It sounds pretty weird, and it's not something I've heard of other users having issues with.

I mean, I occasionally get a server timeout when posting during peak periods but it's pretty rare.

Caesar your suggestion of a different browser seems to have done the trick - switched from Windows Explorer to Google Chrome and I am batting at 5/5 with no reposting (surprised Chrome is a little slower however)

Any updates on BF badges? gold/platinum membership(avatar sizes and ability to upgrade)? Being able to see who is online each board and which mods are allocated to that board?

No, none.

The mods list is in the hands of Dan, as is the users online for which I have agreed to a quote for the job of creating the add on.

The BFSC stuff is still an unsolved issue.
