It hasn't happened since about 10:30/11pm Tuesday night. I'll let you know if it recurs, hopefully it doesn't. It started last Friday (a week ago) and was very persistent until after my post on here (the exchange above with the Sailing Ceaser shows the rough timeframe for when it got better).

As I mentioned, I used two different ISPs and had exactly the same problem. I contacted both and both advised that the problem was at the BF server end (phone only though, so I have no written details for you, or any diagnostic logs).

I also have several different layers of antivirus and firewalls - and ran a number of full system checks as soon as it happened - so it isn't on my local hardware or software.

I still don't like the clicky stuff - I'd have preferred if we at least were formally notified that stats were being collected on us, and if so what they would be used for/released to.

Interested to see where you go with the portals - I did like the old clean basic layout, but that sort of news summary can also be used in lots of interesting different layouts/pages, good luck with it. Until they re-appear, I've set up my own set of search/links/feeds, so I should be OK - I just won't be driving BF stats higher unfortunately...

The fact we collect stats is in the BIG terms. Every single web site you visit will log your visit. These are not individual stats - they are aggregate stats showing number of pages we serve, the average amount of time people stay on the site and so on.

Clicky has now been removed as we've reached the end of our free trial period, but we still have Google Analytics running which is another statistics system.

That's not what you should be worrying about. What you should worry about is Noicola Roxon's proposed system under which your browsing and mobile phone data would be stored at the ISP/phone carrier for two years.
 
god i keep clicking on bgifooty because its always on google when you search for threads

anyway Chief, any update on having an option to remove the twitter feed? if not, can we have the option to make it our clubs feed only? also, can you please add west coast to that twitter feed because i don't care about what port and carlton have to say (it seems only a few teams show up on the twitter feed for me)

The teams showing up would be the ones who Tweet more often.

If we come across a way to allow members to select from a list of feeds we'll do that.

The Twitter feed might not be there later on anyway.

I had reported bgifooty to Google but it seems it has come back in. What are some specific search terms which bring it up?

yeah but i've had west coast tweet say during game time and it hasn't come up on the bigfooty feed. i think the wce twitter isn't in the system unless it's just my account bugging out.

some specific search terms would be if im on google and type in a members name, it'll come up with bgifooty. the other time was when i googled an older bigfooty thread name and it took me to bgifooty and i tried replying without realizing it was the spam site.

You're right: there were two GWS accounts in there, one fake, and no WCE. I've fixed that up.

im not really sure about specific terms mate, i just know if you search for a posters name bgifooty comes up as well, also when searching for threads. its not a big deal to me because i know if i accidentally click on it then i just leave but i'm sure it's a big deal for you with them stealing revenue from ads and content from the site.

Chief this "problem" has happened to me a lot too - here's a specific example though. Searching for a member's profile on Google, in this case I'll use mcuzzy , I type in "mcuzzy bigfooty" on Facebook and the second link is to bgifooty.

I've been using that methods for ages, cheers, it's a good one. Just wanted to highlight how easily this fake site slips through

I have started a thread on the Collingwood board trying to establish the veracity of the claim that 'supporters only' threads are commonplace. So far one Essendon supporter recalls such a thread once on their board when 'NM supporters outnumbered Essendon supporters 10 to 1'. Otherwise, our supporters and those from other teams who have posted think that Carlton's 3 wooden spoons in recent years have made them a bit touchy. It seems so far that this practice is largely confined to the Carlton board.
