Don't agree that he always give 100%, it's pretty common for him to watch opposition players run straight past him. He goes hard when the balls in dispute though and is a decent clearance player, just needs to make better decisions.

Me too. Gives up height to most opposition ruckmen but usually still tries his best.
Stepped up to be a solo ruckman with NN injured in 2023 (with us previously mainly operating with a 2 ruck system) and played through hamstring issues. Was an incredible effort to play through 2023 tbh.

I think MC Qualter is gonna prefer him over Flynn. Follow up work is first rate for a ruckman and he's great at getting the ball moving forward. Got some fire in him too, and doesn't lope around. He's almost like an extra mid when the ball hits the deck.

As long as he doesn't play forward, he's a keeper I reckon.

I'm actually only at half time right now...had some very boring commitments to attend to while the game was live.

On the fox broadcast, just after half time Jono Brown is waffling on and then cuts to him standing in the studio. Behind him on the screen is cameras from the eagles rooms. Quite sure that was Flynn giving Bailey some coaching points. Don't quote me but it sure looked like him.

Getting a sense that Flynn's value at the club extends a bit beyond his on field stuff. The club clearly sees something in his leadership and knowledge of the game. Already involved in coaching with the AFLW team. Don't dislike him either tbh

Bit of context might help.

I rated Bailey for years, talked him up loads and loads.

I do NOT rate him when he's sharing the ruck duties with Flynn and playing down forward however. He's a terrible FWD.



By no means is Bailey the answer to our ruck woes long term, but Flynn has borderline proven already he's a big slow lump and not best 22. At least Bailey rucking no his own gets invovled and competes.

Bailey’s issue is that games like yesterday are a rarity and even break even game are quite rare phenomenon for him. Majority of his games are him being absolutely uncompetitive. 2023, however, while he wasn’t great he was more competitive.


Thats the thing about Bailey, he’ll never be elite but at least need to dampen/neutralise his man and show some competitiveness and have the odd game like Brissy in jim.

I'm trying really hard to concede that BW is proving me wrong and show that he is up to the standard. Watching the replay of the GWS game and he lays a strong tackle on Ward, holding the ball, shoves Ward in the back afterwards. I'm thinking great, that's what you need to do, have some ****ing agro about you. Prove me wrong and I'll own up to it. Three minutes later there's a loose ball between BW (101kg) and Jones (last listed at 67kg) and instead of just going straight for the ball and running through a guy that makes Caleb Daniel look like an adult, he acts like a pissweak and puts on the breaks on and lets Jones nearly take possession before laying a half arsed tackle which results in a ball-up in D50. Sorry but I'd rather have Flynn in the side over someone who is afraid to use their size against someone they have 34 odd kilos on. I'm really hoping he wins me over but it just pisses me off when he keeps showing these weak acts

Bailey was calculating the weight differential to avoid suspension and well...it takes Bailey a bit of time to do that.

I'm off him being in the team at the moment. To me he has one skill; follow up ruck work at ground level.
Honestly watching him I think the game is too quick for him reaction wise. Which I think can be said for a lot of ruckmen but those other ruckmen offer hitouts to advantage and generally are able to nullify the other teams ruckmen so they aren't BOG. He doesn't do these things.

In the above clip I think he was genuinely worried about collecting Jones high and proceeded with caution.

Also Flynn has taken more marks in just one game than BBW has taken in 3.
A ruck who can actually take more than 1 mark a game is pretty valuable, especially if you need a dependable bail out.
I really think Flynn has been unduly crucified for being the ruck in that first game where our midfield was annihilated. And would have been as much if not more if BBW had played instead.

Gotta disagree with this, the one thing BW can’t be criticised for is weak effort. Goes as hard as anyone in our team, would say this is more likely trying to avoid giving away a free which if he went in hard was pretty likely.

If I can be bothered I'll put up more examples when I see them. It's a common theme, though it's not always obvious when watching live, a lot of it I only notice because I'm combing through the matches when I do the clips and see all these little habits

Last couple weeks sums it up really.

Flynn stunk it up . Was happy to give BW a go.
BW lit it up first half against lions.
BW then followed up with two compete meh games and I'm ready to see Flynn again.

Need to find a better solution and asap.
