Quoted just for hilarity. We may as well blame Trump for this as it's all happened really since he was elected...
MRILSA
Make Richmond's injury list small again.

My concern is that there’s a pattern with severe hammy injuries to three teenage players , we’ve invested heavily in these players and their development has just been set back 12m
The method seems to have got Lynch, Prestia and Hopper as fit and healthy as they've been in a long time.

Are the methods the same for the 1st year kids? Should they be? Few questions that need to be answered and rectified.

we promoted a dude who wasnt even the top man at an oppo club instead of searching for and paying for the best and now all our new (best draft eva!) draftees are all injured. whats the problem ? no money?

Posted this in the Smillie thread, looks like I should have posted it here instead.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's already happening, don't for 1 minute think that the conditioning guys are just sitting on their hands, they're fully aware of the stresses being placed on the young blokes. They're professionals and know a hell of a lot more than the punters on internet footy boards.

In Smillie's case, Serpell has already said that he's on a modified conditioning block that recognizes his growth spurt as placing undue stress on his hamstring tendons.

"Hamstring tendon stress in growing years, especially during growth spurts, is a common issue due to the imbalance between bone and muscle growth. Bones can grow faster than muscles, creating tightness and making the tendons more susceptible to injury. This can lead to pain, inflammation, and even tears or avulsions (where the tendon pulls away from the bone)"

I get all of the hand wringing going on, but don't get sucked in by those spamming posters with uneducated negative views.

That's the 64,000 question and I'd suggest the answer to that is no, it would appear serpell has demanded an Everest style rehab on young bodies meaning every muscle fibre in their bodies is at breaking point

When you drive past the local rehab centre in your neighbourhood are they pulling tractor tyres up sand dunes to demonstrate fitness ,,, no , they're taking it flipping easy ,

This guy is flipping dangerous and I'm scared witless of him getting his hands on next years draftees and ruining their careers too

I'd love for them to trial existing method v doing very little over 30 days to rehab a torn tendon and see who comes back better , there's a pattern at punt rd that was set before this bloke came in and not a lot has changed if anything it's worsened as it's gone beyond pres and lynch , what else is new to every one of our draftees bar a couple being impacted

I think two of those hamstrings have more to do with the mechanism (pushed in mid-air, extension without load through it) than through over-loading/fatigue (which is how Hugo's went).

The development hasn't been set back 12 months, but it hasn't enabled as much development as hoped. Harry is possibly back this week (probably 2 weeks due to the VFL bye after this game) and same with Josh. Worth noting those are both tall players. Sammy has played a good half a season, Harry will end up with 8-9 games (senior and vfl), Josh with similar.

Provided they come back from these injuries fit and firing, it isn't an issue in the grand scheme of our 14th flag. Don't want to see them doing hammies year after year though, like Grimes (although it didn't really impact us too much at the end of the day).

Strange happenings tho , are there any parallels elsewhere ? Question not a statement

The suggestion that every player is on the same conditioning program is absolute tinfoil hat stuff and I expect better from you. It has been well documented that players at every club have been on individualised training programs for a long time now...

To suggest that we've hired someone who has gone and ignored years worth of evidence and has everyone doing the same thing is laughable. Some may do the same drills. but the loads are frequently adjusted to suit individual atheletes, monitored and tracked every session. Players are constantly being poked and prodded to see how they are coping with the loads given to them. Young AFL players have spoken regularly about their issues in accurately reporting their soreness, energy levels etc as they have been worried about not being selected etc etc

If you think that is how any AFL team, let alone one as well-resourced as ours, is being operated then you need to spend some time watching even just the odd training session and see how many players do 100% the same work as everyone else...
