Apologies for the obscure thread bump, I wasn't sure if there was anywhere better to put this. After enduring the Eagles' trouncing at Kardinia Park yesterday, I took in a random suburban game today to rekindle my love of footy, as I often do. It was an Essendon District league 2nd Div semi final. Scanning the player names in the record to see if there was anyone I'd ever heard of (there usually isn't) I came across Damien Cavka, playing for Keilor Park. You may recall he was on the Eagles list in 2015 but had to retire without ever playing an AFL game due to a serious foot injury. Anyway, given injury spoiled his shot at an AFL career, it was good to see him running around playing footy today. He played mostly wing but also went forward. He kicked four goals and looked overjoyed at the end of the game when his team won to make their way through to the Grand Final. I was chuffed for him - once an Eagle, always an Eagle in my mind (note: does not apply to Tim Watson).

That was when I optimistic and less of a campaigner
I enjoyed that bump.

There was a lot of optimism in those posts from the majority of posters back then wasn’t there?

We really have been spoiled as Eagles supporters. 4 flags in our history is better than all bar the Hawks in the AFL era.

We are pretty lucky as fans.

Another thread bump on the theme of randomly seeing ex-Eagles players in local footy games. We're in Cairns on holiday at the moment and went to the local AFL Cairns grand final this evening and who should be playing but Ashton Hams (39 games for West Coast from 2010-2013). Playing midfield, Hams was one of the best players as his side (Cairns City Lions) waltzed to a 95 point win over the Port Douglas Crocs at Cazalys Stadium. Great venue, shame about the lopsided game. I also see, from checking online, that Damien Cavka's side (Keilor Park) won their grand Final recently with Cavka kicking three goals, but Nathan Vardy missed out today as Koroit beat North Warrnambool in the Hampden League grand final (Vardy kicked a goal and listed in the best players for North Warrnambool).

He moved to Cairns? So he finally did become Steamed Hams after all.
