Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

I said both sets of supporters, I wasnt singling out WCE fans.

If anything I was predominantly referring to the Hawks fans who came in here trying to gloat.

As for trying to take some high road, you're naive if you dont think West Coast are doing similar work.

I hope we are into every decent Hawks player.

If only to drive up the price to retain them.

Havent heard about it though have we?

I mean yeah, you were proudly being a dick. Just as many Hawks fans have been acting like dicks in here.

You're all as bad as each other and could do with growing up a bit.

If a club was coming hard to tempt one of our star players to move, I'd take it as a compliment towards said player and why on earth would I hold it against the other club. A tiny bit of maturity is all it takes to realise that this is how the game works and every club does it.

Anyway, best of luck with Reid. If we aren't going to get him (and we are not) Im delighted he has stayed out west.
Your club and its supporters are simply scum.

I watched the Tradies pod with Maclure so you don't have to.
They do raise he's getting smashed on socials
Sam basically denies ever saying that he wouldn't sign.
says it's good with a whole truck load of caveats
Then tries to change the subject to De Konning.

Will clip the relevant parts for those that want brain damage.
Just watched it. What a flog that McClure is!

As predicted went with the “he’s not worth $2m on exposed form” that wouldn’t have rated a mentioned had he gone back to Victoria.

Mitch Cleary pointed out he’s playing for unders on his 3 year rookie deal so it all comes out in the wash.

Harley Reid is so good he even managed to get me to finish a video.

2014 Round 4 highlights surely published any moment now...

This is your best work since the We Didn’t Start the Fire preview

****ing outstanding

for real though, how do you think the hawks couldve gotten anywhere close to getting a trade done?
or if not you, then how did other people on your board think it could get done realistically?
You know how good he is, you just find a way. It's all moot anyway but I can't think of any superstar players who requested a move and it didn't work. Maybe a couple I can't remember but it usually gets done.
That said, you're right though, the price would have probably been so high. The kid will win a Norm Smith, you just need to build it right around him.

Yes, the price would be astronomical, borderline list ruining for a top 8 club to be trying to get in Harley right now imo.
Considering we would more than likely turn down an offer of picks 2+3(or 3+4) from Richmond if Harley had no say on where he played, its just not feasible.
Way too many big pieces that would have to be moved(probably against their wishes) to make it happen to get what is essentially in the ballpark of a top 5 pick plus a top 10 pick as a minimum.

It cant be understated how important this signing is. The club is at its lowest ebb in our history i suspect lots of people would of been loosing faith in this current club management and board. An accumulation of highly costly mistakes and bottom barrel scrapping has led to this.

Harley signing on is a tick to the clubs current path especially with Oscar and Ryam heading out the door.

I believe it was Harleys manager with Goss and Cummings admitted harley learned from the most recent off season and has said " oh fridge and bakes have already made him commit to training with them this off season"

If Graham and Baker can pass on their standards to Harley they will have well and truly repaid the cost

Harley's managers comments about the negotiations only being finalized on the weekend proves that Schofield knew fcuk all 8 weeks ago that Harley was staying. He was only guessing like the rest of us.

That was in regard to the years.

It does appear the decision to stay was made well before this week. It was just how long he would commit for.

There was never any concerns he wouldn't be staying. Both parties were negotiating in good faith and only with each other.

This is all just pie the sky stuff. We would have said no to all you could offer, even if it was Blues first, Blues second, your F1 and your F2. They are all nothing picks that don't come close.

We'd have made him play another year then looked again, and clubs would have loaded up with assets to trade for him next year.

You "just find a way" for ordinary players, not someone who's projected to be a top 5 player for the next decade plus.

Only Barra could make half of this story unusually about himself and Perth Demons

It really would have a kick in the nuts if Harley asked to be traded. There’s not a lot for us supporters to hang our hopes on but Reid was a shining light

What shouldn’t be understated is the credit Reid’s manager, Nick Geischen, gave to the club for the way they handled negotiations, in particular Matt Clarke. Right or wrong, he doesn’t enjoy a good reputation with many/most Eagles fans after the pick 3/Baker trade last year and the view he fumbled the Barrass trade - so when Gieschen says how happy he was dealing with Clarke, it’s a strong endorsement

It’s also a tick for McQualter who has been able to forge a really strong relationship with Reid that was definitely a factor in his decision to stay

Guys, i don't want to upset anyone, but the hate that Matt Clarke gets on here is in part due to WCE_phil telling us inside stories. And i think we all know the worth of those stories...

It’s good to hear Gieschens comment about dealing with the club.

I know a few player managers were a bit miffed about him not responding to them last trade period.

Not saying it cost us anyone or anything.

EDIT: sorry to be clear, not responding in a timely fashion. I don’t know if there were any he never responded to.
