Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

Guys, i don't want to upset anyone, but the hate that Matt Clarke gets on here is in part due to WCE_phil telling us inside stories. And i think we all know the worth of those stories...
Matt Clarke and John Worsfold should be congratulated for the work they did in securing Harley's signature.
I couldn't help but notice that the General Manager Football didn't rate a mention.

Actually, what tipped it for him was Brennan's input into his development.

True story.

There was never any concerns he wouldn't be staying. Both parties were negotiating in good faith and only with each other.
I'm exhausted from all this Harley stuff, hope having a snippet meant it was less so, whats the next big thing pants?
need something else to refresh on here every day :D

Need to get Chesser sorted, that would be the priority now as far as re-signings go. Could be announced at any time. And then it's our request to the AFL for assistance. Once that is known the club can properly plan ahead.

Chesser likely staying, or still a chance he requests a trade?

chessers last 4 weeks and actual continuity was great, having that FRP be a miss would have been rough :(

Not just on-field either, we lost two Premiership legends this year.

Probably the darkest year in our history.

But as they say, it's always darkest before the dawn. I hope it applies here too.

It really would have a kick in the nuts if Harley asked to be traded. There’s not a lot for us supporters to hang our hopes on but Reid was a shining light

What shouldn’t be understated is the credit Reid’s manager, Nick Geischen, gave to the club for the way they handled negotiations, in particular Matt Clarke. Right or wrong, he doesn’t enjoy a good reputation with many/most Eagles fans after the pick 3/Baker trade last year and the view he fumbled the Barrass trade - so when Gieschen says how happy he was dealing with Clarke, it’s a strong endorsement

It’s also a tick for McQualter who has been able to forge a really strong relationship with Reid that was definitely a factor in his decision to stay
100% agree

Well he has an offer so the longer he doesn't sign the more likely that he is leaving. But would be a real shame after he was backed in at the end of the season after finally finding fitness.

This. I think its obvious he has been moved aside and Woosha is taking a bigger role in all things list management, even if its behind the scenes from the outside.
I for one have seen a shift in how our list management team and their approach.
I also think Pyke is having a stronger role in list management.

We must remember while Matt Clarke gets punched a lot here, he also has Woosha and Pyke having a fair bit of say imo.
They have both been involved in several footy clubs for a very long time and would have very good intel on how different list builds have been done.
We would be absolutely f@$ked if we didn't sign Baker and Graham last trade period and our draft was very good, and I cant wait to see who we get in the trade and draft period this year with a new focus.

That's right. There was that, and then there was 500 semi-trailer truckloads of outside noise, chatter, speculation and gossip.

Would be a bit of a kick in the guts for the club after having patience over the years with his injuries. Then to finally get fit in the late stages of the season, show some promise and the then leave.

Curious as to whether you can divulge this but is your HR Intel on his side or club's side?

Club which is why I was never concerned at any point that he would be not signing as the club didn't have those concerns.

He ain't seen nothing yet...just wait until the team's actually GOOD again

Interesting right, because his performance seemed to improve with Clay Hall in the side, coincidental or not. Imagine if we can top up with a couple more upgraded pieces to really get Harley the ball and let him run absolutely rampant.
