Kane did everything possible to make it happen, including cooking up a medal for #1 draft picks named after a North person.

It backfired in the AFL's face when North preferred to keep their handouts(rightly so) and not offer what WCE wanted.

that's what i reckon it's for. nothing quite on-brand as the afl needing to institute a stupid rule to counteract the unforeseen fallout of their earlier stupid rules.

Nice little signing bonus but a drop in the ocean of eventual earnings. I was listening to Tom Mitchell interview Harley Reid and he said the Giants had put a pay structure in front of him before the draft to entice him on where he would like to end up. After the initial contract it ramped significantly. Double what the Swans were offering. I wasn't even aware that was a thing but if you're getting picked early and shown future projections like he was, the 10k might mean less than the silverware (in the good of time. This year it was just random and weird)

The big occasion of No1 with the medal, hype and media focus on the big stage! Nic was perfect visually with his physical presence , style and symbolism with his personality. The smile on revealing the #9 was pure hollywood. Priceless.

I’ve not been to Tongala so not sure what that town is like compared to Bassendean. But watching the draft last night, when my wife saw Harley with his mates she unprompted said they looked like a bunch of bush bogans
