So Nelson is a big bodied inside mid with exceptional kicking skills on both sides , great over head mark and a tackling machine .
So why did he slide to 51 ?

Only moderate pace and not a high possession getter as I understand it

His highlights showed some great traits but to me there wasn't anything that shouted X-factor/game winner, so perhaps that was a reason? At 51 a reliable, capable contributor is a good pickup though.

Also has only moved into a midfield role this year and I believe he was injured for part of it so there was probably some risk in recruiters' eyes.

Nelson only averaged 14 or so possessions in the champs but played a lock down defensive role in one game and was concussed in the 1st quarter of another .

I suspect because he doesnt have any standout attributes and is not super exciting or quick. But seems a very good prospect at 51 especially considering he was in the AIS etc.

People say that Nelson doesn't have any standout attributes but his kicking is elite and he averaged 6+ tackles a game in TAC this year . If he can start finding the footy he will be a valuable team member .

He will end up in the midfield.....and sooner rather than latter.
He will be viewed as a steal in years to come, I have been very critical of our recruiters in the past , however I will call this early , they got this one right.
Will be a 150+ AFL player, the kid has one if the unteachable assets in football ...poise.

A well known and respected ( sort of ) Black Ducks poster on this board ( yes you know who you are......The Barron Of Bassendean ) we both challenged each other ( pre draft ) to picked a "smokie" who would go latter in the draft, than where we rated them...... I picked Nelson and he picked Lukas Webb who the Doggies picked up.

I think both players represent value for where they were picked and let just say ......I am thrilled Nelson is on our list.

At only 19 with 2 game to his name, he's strong, courageous and composed. He moves well and always looks like he has a bit of time; that's not a common trait. Only real knock would be lack of pace at this stage, but we've barely seen the kid. Duggan, Lamb and Nelson (so far) look hugely exciting.
