He was eligible for last year’s draft and was on our radar but was overlooked due to injury

Persist. Not sure he’s a small forward, I think he’s a mid who will likely never be big enough to play the position, but when a guy has it on a list so devoid of guys who have it…just sign him up.

I just see him as whatever Owies is, but a less spud version that might actually be useful and develop into a handy player.

Surprised at how good he looks jumping at the football as a midget. That really sets him apart because nobody expects small forwards to have that sort of leap or be a threat aerially.

Got his hands to the ball in a couple pack marks he could've potentially realed in, and also clunked a beauty.



At the very very very least he deserves a year. Kid is just a pup. Hearing him speak about his debut really hammers home just how young he is.

Thought he showed a bit against the Swans. 5 disposals isn't great, but he showed a bit of fight and appetite for the contest... also not afraid to go for a pack mark. Happy for him to be given a crack at a full pre-season to show what he can do.

Cripps is basically cooked, Owies has been unimpressive, Ryan could be leaving... we could do with a few more options in the forward line.

Surprised and yet not surprised. Saw him in-and-around the packs quite a bit during the game. Had a presence even if it didn't show up in the possession count.

This is terrific news. Seems to have something about him, bit of grunt and likes to have a jump at contests. Looking forward to him and McCarthy have a full pre season and see what they’re about next year

I have to say, we've made some astute drafting decisions since the pieman ****ed off to the drug rats and Duane Massey took over his role.

Not many of us had heard a whisper of this kid until he was taken in the MSD, and yet we find out that he was on our radar last year in the national draft until his injury. Sure enough, he's looking like he could be useful to us already.

Same with Grego, another one not many of us knew about and he's looking like he'll be up to the level.

Seems to me like we're taking players not just on their athletic gifts, but also their hunger for the contest and a competitive nature. Hamish Davis is another one who, to our surprise, loves a cuddle. Then there's Bo Allan who likes to throw his weight around.

I'm seeing a distinct and positive shift in our drafting, and it gives me confidence that we will continue to look for some more hard-nosed types moving forward. Oh, and Duursma ain't soft. I expect us to take him with pick 1, and will be delighted when we do.

Pleased with Newton's extension anyway, look forward to watching the nugget run around for us next year.
