When they slapped together this absolute turd sandwich of a deal, Don Pyke and Co were no doubt assuming any supporter backlash would be brief given the natural tendency of fans to fall in line and back new players. In other words they are banking on that reflexive support for anyone who puts on a west coast guernsey to make the supporter base wear this and protect their jobs.

So yeah, nah.

I am less thinking 'welcome Liam Baker' and more thinking 'you're welcome to **** right off Liam Baker, noone except your cozy little circlejerk of arseh*le richmond mates want you at the club, for the vast majority of the supporter base, the news you had been recruited was the single darkest day in the club's history. We are devastated you are here. We don't want you, you aren't welcome. Not at this price.

I'm on board with this attitude tbh.

Hard pressed to deny that it's unfair and vindictive and generally antithetical to what being a supporter should entail, but the incompetence of WCE off-field decision making has gone beyond the pale, ditto the concomitant smug contempt for fans. We're rightfully fed up and this shouldn't be allowed to just settle out and forgotten about. I have a hard time imagining ever warming to Baker as a result.

I think people should seperate baker from his draft price.
If he wasn't pick 14 would we have issues. He is a reasonable player and with a list full of spuds he is a improvement.
If you don't like the trade that is your problem but please don't play the man.
And for those who think booing Baker and Owies is a bright thing to do then feel free to cancel your membership and delete your account.
The same goes to those who have abused poor wce_phil. At least he has been candid and tried to explain things

I'm pissed at the trade but the best case scenario is that Baker goes well and we get behind him (or at least, stay neutral). Trade is done so hopefully we get some value from it. I'm not going to be cheering my guts out for him (until he proves he's good) but booing him is a bridge too far.

Two extremes of the hysterical - those that would boo and those that actually think more than maybe 1 or 2 would actually try and do this.

However, just like any other very highly paid job, you are judged on your performance compared to what you paid.

And in footy, you are also inevitably judged on what was given up to land you at the club that's going to pay you mega $$$ (to think otherwise is inane).

1st judgement on $$ will be squared away given his abilities.

2nd is more than likely to be an issue and that is first and foremost on the club hierarchy, with presumably Baker having huge balls or not being real bright, with him/his management have completely misread the room (freo being a much better fit).

Going on the Tiggers B & F speech, my monies on the latter.

If that was a future tiggers captain interview then they must have been totally bereft of any other candidates.

Most of this years new draftees will be more compelling and convincing (even those that really didn’t want to be drafted interstate).

Sad to see Bakes go, contrary to popular belief he isn’t just a little fella who tries hard. He is so clean with both hand and foot and always one touch. Super courageous and never skirts a contest.
As for some of your fans with talk of booing him and Owies… pathetic behaviour and I really hope it’s a small minority of your fan base as that is just terrible.
