Why and do you have some one else in mind?

No because I'm not the one in charge of appointing the CEO.

What experience does he have that could possibly be relevant to running a football club?

When you say he do you mean Pavlich? Looking at the posts on this thread surely his time in football and his business experience since seems a very good appointment.

Do you mean ‘how are any good CEOs qualified’?

Leaving aside formal qualifications such as an MBA etc, I’d expect to see someone with many years of experience in an associated industry, with at least 10 years at C-suite level.

Experience dealing with boards and key stakeholders. Understands governance, regulatory requirements, financial control and risk management. Also is able to demonstrate very strong strategic decision making capabilities.

Also has a demonstrated history of strong business development and growth.

Oh, and has a strong background in leadership and staff development.

There’s plenty more but that would do for starters.

What a good CEO isn’t is just a good lad who was able to kick a ball well and can crack a joke on TV.

I’ve no idea how Pavlich matches up against those requirements, he may well be excellent. But just as a good player doesn’t necessarily make a good coach, they most certainly also don’t necessarily make a good administrator.
Thank you. In most industries he wouldnt stand a chance of getting the CEO role with his resume. An odd appointment on paper. Seems like a reasonable bloke on TV without being particularly sharp or insightful. Doesnt scream CEO material for a club as successful and high profile as the swans.

The Hall of Industries is a decent legacy for Tom Harley.

Pav has an impressive CV with one exception -executive experience at the level.

JHWF presents decent set of KPIs in above page. I'd add another:
-make a close study of GWS CEO counterpart Dave Matthews. He's prepared to 'thump the table' at AFL House when it's needed.

Who else would I mean?

Why is his time in football relevant to running a business?

I worked in a bottle shop during uni, should I run Dan Murphy's?

Is it just me but when I saw the thread title 'Welcome Mathew Pavlich', my immediate thought was, that's an interesting choice as a new assistant coach?
Would probably make a good forwards coach and we could use one of those right now.

Um... you realise Harley wasn't the coach, right?
The thing I liked about Harley is that (as far as I could tell) he enabled people and let them do their jobs while supporting them. A wonderful trait in a boss. The Swans were a good organisation when he arrived and at least as good when he leaves. The corporate side and management WAS his job. He might find head office more difficult. Pav is walking into something that isn't broken so should be able to settle in with minimum drama.

Feels like there are some unlucky candidates on this thread not happy with the Pav appointment.

Interesting appointment that like Harley, playing career was elsewhere. Both in the media. Harley served an apprenticeship of sorts before getting the top job.

Pavlich straight in and will face new challenges in a non-football state. His predecessor was able to overcome this and did a great job off the field.

To all the naysayer on here do you really think a board and a president who is very good business man and go through months of a process and go hire a ceo with no experience or business acumen. I’m sorry but Some people have no idea .
You can say that again
