Look, think what you may about the appointment, but I'd like to unpack how is this a 'job for the boys'.Utterly bizarre hey? Jobs for the boys.
I think however Pavlich is helped in that very last regard by the fact we have Pridham, who is very, very happy to thump the table as needed as well. The Hall of Industries is a decent legacy for Tom Harley.
Pav has an impressive CV with one exception -executive experience at the level.
JHWF presents decent set of KPIs in above page. I'd add another:
-make a close study of GWS CEO counterpart Dave Matthews. He's prepared to 'thump the table' at AFL House when it's needed.
Where did I say he had a link to the swans?Look, think what you may about the appointment, but I'd like to unpack how is this a 'job for the boys'.
What links at the Swans exactly does he have to make it a 'job for the boys'?

I think the fact that Pav is not a member of the Melbourne Mafia is a positive.Look, think what you may about the appointment, but I'd like to unpack how is this a 'job for the boys'.

Tom Harley didn't go straight to CEO at the swans. Seems a big jump to me for Pavlich.Keeping an open mind and trusting the club's decision makers.

Maybe a way of helping fend off the Melbourne clubs wanting to shut or severly limit northern academy's down.I think the fact that Pav is not a member of the Melbourne Mafia is a positive.
Isn't the word, afl clubs are a different beast. It's not like running any old business."Not only did he play more than 350 games at the highest level, he served for more than 11 years on the AFL Players’ Association Board, including three years as President, and was also an advisor on the AFL Laws of the Game Committee for two years.”
Mr Pridham said Mr Pavlich would also bring significant business acumen to the role, having successfully co-founded talent, technology, and brand partnerships business Launchd, where he has served as its Executive Chairman, and assisted the early growth phase of technology, data, and creative services company PMY Group. He also has a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Business Administration both from the University of Western Australia.

Matthew Pavlich appointed Sydney Swans CEO
AFL Hall of Fame member, Matthew Pavlich, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Sydney Swans.www.sydneyswans.com.au
I would say his plenty qualified.
I think our chair was particularly attracted to Pavlich’s entrepreneurial success. To all the naysayer on here do you really think a board and a president who is very good business man and go through months of a process and go hire a ceo with no experience or business acumen. I’m sorry but Some people have no idea .
Well what 'boys club' are you referring to then?Where did I say he had a link to the swans?
He'd already have contacts in the Agent and Player area due to his role in heading up the Players Association. Was on the AFL Laws committee, has deep history in AFL and a from I can tell a solid background in business.Isn't the word, afl clubs are a different beast. It's not like running any old business.
Er, yes.Well what 'boys club' are you referring to then?
The AFL Industry?
So what you are saying to avoid the boys club is that you want to hire someone with no experience in the AFL industry.Er, yes.
No I'm saying hiring someone because they had a good reputation on the football field rather than having good off field experience is ****ing dumb. You're seriously trying to say no one else in the AFL industry is better qualified than a second rate commentator? So what you are saying to avoid the boys club is that you want to hire someone with no experience in the AFL industry.
That makes complete sense and that’s how any rationale board should look to hire….
That is a very narrow take on his experience. He has done a lot more then be a 'second rate commentator' off the park.No I'm saying hiring someone because they had a good reputation on the football field rather than having good off field experience is ****ing dumb. Maybe we should have made Kane Cornes CEO..
You missed the President. Pridham is also originally from WA.first coxy, now Pav - the slow WA takeover of the swans
in all seriousness, congrats to him! hope he does well for our club.
I mean Pav himself said he wasn't considering this 6-7 weeks ago so doesn't that tell you where his head was at? What C-suite experience does he have in a relevant field? That is a very narrow take on his experience. He has done a lot more then be a 'second rate commentator' off the park.
But anyway, whatever. I'm sure you know better than the club board that, by and large, gets a whole lot more of its decisions right than it gets wrong.
Often we (some of us) complain that people are hired from the same shallow gene pool. We've said it about coaches a lot recently. In the press we often see the same names going round and round in circles, often members of the Melbourne-based "boys club" as per the book of that name.I mean Pav himself said he wasn't considering this 6-7 weeks ago so doesn't that tell you where his head was at? No, he's just going to be running the club.Often we (some of us) complain that people are hired from the same shallow gene pool. We've said it about coaches a lot recently. We often wish we had more fresh blood.
Hardwick has stated clearly that he didn't understand the challenges faced outside Vic until he moved.
Pav is 44 years old and has a range of experience that many don't have. He has a strong and stable board backing him and an experienced executive team.
He has many reasons why he should succeed and no obvious ones why he should fail so I for one will be barracking for him because his success will be the club's success, just like Harley's was.
Just remembering he doesn't coach the team.
