Really intrigued to see where and how Parker may fit into the side. Clearly a real chance for Round 1 but in which spot and at the expense of who is the bit that's got me.

190 cm, played hff/mid in the intra club so he's not really taking the Lonie/Long,Young small forward spot - vastly different to player to Membrey so he's not a "tall" forward.

Do you play him as some hybrid mid/wing/hff in which case its Acres/Newnes/Sinclair who maybe in the gun.
Defensive and crowded backlines make it difficult to crumb these days, so I reckon Lonie misses out.

Emphasis should be on pressure and closing speed IMO.

Lonie kicks goals - good trait for a small forward.

Unfortunately it might be the step up to cover Steven that creates the "space" for Parker.

Lonie was playing a bit more midfield at the intraclub. Perhaps he'll be needed in the guts.

I've been trying to figure out where Parker might play or how his skills could be utilised.

Based on the very very limited sample maybe he could be used in a very similar way to how the Pies used your fav (Stephenson) last year.

190 cm, 2.90's for the 20 sprint - would be very difficult to defend if he got out the back on i50's.

Parker looks ideal to take the role that Billings had as a high half forward who sets up scoring opportunities, that way Jack can go into the middle. Youngs defensive efforts looked pretty good too. The race between Lonie, Parker, Young, Kent, Rice etc should be interesting

You would think at least 2 of the 5 will play in Round 1!
If i was to guess i'd say prob Kent and Parker! If Steven is missing Lonie also possibly gets a gig!

I loved Parker’s attack on the man as much as his attack on the ball. A couple of the young North boys actually looked frightened.
Went full Waterboy in the first quarter.

Very bold recruiting move, wonder how the other clubs viewed him. Looked very comfortable yesterday which was reassuring

gave away three poor free kicks early...hopefully just nerves, cant afford to do give away cheap ones so often, it relieves pressure.

But looked ok at times without quite showing that he will be quality at AFL level... but has come a long way in a short time and seems he could just make an impact... lets hope so!

he had 7 tackles, equal with Steele, which is great... but Steele gave away no free kicks. Something to learn there IMO

I’ll take a few frees against every week if it means Matty is cracking in physically. He doesn’t need much of the footy to genuinely impact a result of a game.
He gives us such a point of difference. Opposition clubs will spend a hell of a lot of time talking about him in planning.
A lock for round 1 now.

I’m giving the guy a break - obviously over-enthusiastic and excited to play his first AFL game, albeit JLT. Pretty sure he’d have wanted to show what he can do. I’m sure he’ll learn to curb his enthusiasm. :p But hopefully not too much. He can be a great X factor for us.

Looked more than okay for me. He's a lock for round one after that effort.

Yes, he needs to tidy up that tackling but his pressure and aggression was terrific. 2 of those tackles resulted in direct goals and them was able to get on the end of a couple himself.

Good pace, good skills, aggressive and x factor.

He has a good leap on him too! He would be hard to match up on with his speed and agility too.

What I also noticed was that with his long arms he is quite good at spoiling or impacting the intercept marks, which is really handy. Add to that his agility where he can get up and attack the footy straight away.

I liked a lot about this guy - but something I haven't seen mentioned is that he had 81% TOG ( 3rd saint behind Battle and Savage) - as a mature aged guy who probably hasn't built the ground base of his tank yet - he was still flying right until the end of the match - chasing longer, faster and tackling harder than anyone else on the field - watch the last 15 seconds of the game - he takes off at half back receives between wing and half forward and delivers to the goal square - his fitness by all rights probably should not be as good as it appears to be

Makes sense for the West Australian lad to have such a massive TOG yesterday, by AFL standards he's still building his tank but he's probably played more footy in conditions like yesterday (suburban oval, stupid heat) than anyone else on that field.

That also makes sense - but being out there is one thing still sprinting half the ground to get a kick with seconds to go is something else
