Player Watch Pick #55 (2021) - Hugh Jackson

Some double up vision in these clips and while not perfect in everything he does he's neat with a high ceiling. Great pickup, one to watch down the track.

I've got a soft spot for Crystal Brook. When I was a kid at the Legacy Orphanage (Waverley Hostel) on Sth Tce, we were billeted out on school holidays

especially Christmas ones, to families (presumably they were Legatees?) anyway the Sargant* family took me in at their farm just outside the town.

* not sure of the correct spelling, think I was about 8 at the time. I can remember catching the train up there unescorted, the guard probably told

"keep an eye out for him". Different times hey :)

That 34d, 3 goal game is just ridiculous. He was everywhere, and had the ball on a sting. He averaged 34.7 disposals in his nine games, 19.1 kicks, 15.6 handballs, 7.4 marks, 3.6 tackles, 5.6 clearances, 6.0 inside 50s. That is no fluke, and signals a serious player.

He has the right attitude too, this from one article .....

"It just happened this year just by working my way into the midfield because I was predominantly on the wing and an outside player last year," Jackson said.
"I had a massive pre-season and dedicated all to my fitness and it helped my four-quarter efforts on the footy field where I can just run wherever I want and get the footy."
Jackson is fitness focused as he trains three to four nights a week on his football skills but it always looking for more time to put in the extra work

This was Buckenara's take on him. Rated him as an overall pick #27

27. HUGH JACKSON
181cm, 70kg, North Adelaide/South Australia, midfield

Hugh has impressed with his ability to find the footy and make something happen when he has the ball in hand. He is a nice prospect of the future but he will need to develop his body. So I expect clubs will be looking at the typical three-year development program for him in the AFL system. He does have the quality to become a future A-minus or B grader so I will be surprised if he is still there after pick 30.

Port could always do with more “neat”. Gee we have had a lot of classless players in recent history, and along with a poor midfield gameplan, has cost us plenty. If Hugh can develop and a new coach can come in and sort out our system he might be very useful

Another left footer added to the mix along with Sinn. Think that makes 7 across HB and mid field.

What a great clip. Their joy is actually so palpable I actually felt a little emotional watching that. Love the mother chewing her fingers off in anxiety ... then unbridled joy!

Gold!

I really hope he makes it. looks to have the talent, and he hopefully has the mental and emotional edge to become a 100+ game player.

He comes from a beautiful family.

The best bit is knowing which ones in that room are Crow supporters…
I love the pure jubilation from his Dad Lee when Hughs name was called!

Do you know some of the folk there?

I also had a chuckle at old Pop in front. Doesnt move .... just gaffaws in laughter, then goes to clap his hands & nearly breaks the remote control.
:tearsofjoy:

I've read a few comments that he has an awkward (poor?) kicking technique and his accuracy can suffer as a result.

Hopefully it's something he can improve fairly quickly.

This is a rarity for me but he doesn't remind me of anyone at this stage.
(Edit: ok his kicking reminds me of Andrew Jarman)

My biggest concern is lack of follow through on the kicks.

I'm always a fan of recruiting country boys, they don't turn into FIGJAM's.

Good luck, I hope you make the most of the opportunity.
