He's 192 isn't he? Not sure he'll ever be a number 1 forward

If he kicks 26 goals in his first 5 games with us he might :) Not a big fan of the key forward height debate. Because we are really debating who is number 1, 2, 3 tall forward. Who cares? Oppositions will match up with the best fit defenders across all of them regardless. I think Hawthorn have shown you don't need to have super tall forwards to kick a lot of goals - Gunston kicked 57 this year and Roughead kicked 50 this year didn't he? They are both around 193cm I think. And Breust kicked 52 at 184cm. Where did this idea come from that you need some almost 200cm beast to be your key forward?

Bit of extra height would be nice Lynchy but as LikeIt pointed out its not essential. Roughead's only 193, Taylor Walker's 194, Gunston's 193, Pavlich is 192. Regardless of height defenders will often send there best tall back to the best tall forward. If you want to do it by heigh than Allan is probabaly a deeper second tall yeh. A bit like Roughead when Hawthorn had Franklin maybe?

I think what you find is the taller they are generally the longer you need to persist with them for and the more body weight they need to put on as well. Look at Daniher - 200ish cm's and I think he's still got some filling out to do. Tom Boyd - close to 200 cm's hasn't fully hits his straps yet. Tom Hawkins was a tall lad and took a couple of seasons to get to his ideal weight range as well.

I'd be more keen on trimming away any puppy fat on Allan firstly and getting him some good games at senior level with East Perth. Lets be realistic Kennedy is 29 late next August, I'd love Kennedy to be around forever but in Allan by the time he is say 21 (2018) with 3 seasons against men behind him and Josh is 31, Matt will be primed and ready to go. Just got to keep the vultures from SA at bay like they wanted to do with Pavlich and Lycett ;)

Can I lol if this bloke turns out to be the fwd Freo desperately needed?

Yes you may. Shane Yarran might turn out to be a old school full forward. Not your typical KPF but could play deep forward and kick bags. Smart footballer, reads the flight and out bodied his opponent well but his no Matt Allan :D

Tucker, Balic and Yarran. HAH! The saving grace somewhat is Sam Collins. Put all there eggs in the Mitch Brown basket than lost out but I wouldn't be surprised to see them target Mason Shaw in the rookie draft.

Considering the quality of KPD's in this years draft who went so high, to kick multiple bags of goals during the champs is a very good effort.

I wonder what the record is for most goals during the U18's champs is?

Tom Boyd's manager wrote a book about it?

Allen is 193 cm according to the WCE site.

He only needs to grow 1 or 2 cm and he'll suddenly be 'eligible' to be considered a 'key forward'.

Not that those 1 or 2 cm will make stuff all difference. The main thing is if he can take contested marks with his arms fully outstretched, rather than relying on chest marks like Lynch/Darling.

He seems to have very strong hands, which means he's automatically 'taller' that guys who need the ball lace out on their chest.

He is already filling out quite nicely, could turn into an absolute beast. Already has a nice pair of dukes. :thumbsu:

Had to choose between footy & cricket, much like our current captain.

We really do have a thing for South Australia man children who choose footy over cricket...

Don't worry mate, I renemeber him

I will admit I knew nothing about this bloke pre draft and still haven't had a chance to read up on him / watch his highlights, but I saw Paige Cardona mention on her twitter and also her draft review that he could potentially be turned into a mid? Does anyone else who knows about him agree?

Similar size as Bradshaw who used to play at the Lions. Watching Allen's highlights reminded me of Bradshaw. A closer to goal forward who looks good on the lead with strong hands. And most importantly can kick straight.:thumbsu:

Welcome aboard Matty.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

He even said himself he is capable of becoming a mid. But these days it seems every player needs to have the potential to be turned in to a mid. Will we eventually have teams of just mids? Have seen the strategy movement of specialists to "versatiles" in other sporting codes but it seems to always come back to having a good mix always being best. Some specialist backs, some specialist forwards, some specialist mids and some "versatiles". I think Allen will have more success as an agile key forward than pursuing becoming a mid personally but I am basing that just on gut feel.
