Player Watch Chayce Jones - Re-Signed to End of 2026

How about sticking to the content of conversation. EC said the club hasn’t been ruthless enough over X amount of years. I pointed out Thommo as a sign the club was being “ruthless” as a counter-argument.

My main point (and this will be the last I make mention of) is that the club is focusing on the future and not just giving freebies to one of our veterans, despite Thommo regularly getting 30+ possessions in SANFL in 2017.

It's quite interesting watching the fluid nature of your arguments :D

Douglas is definitely getting first crack and deserves it ... but when Galluci is ready Douglas will be one with his position under fire depending on his form and the others he’s competing with

I can see Mchenry getting games prob when Jones hits the skids at some point

Nice position to be in and don’t forget Mcadam from round 8 onwards , when fit he could make more impact than any of them

Haven’t been following McAdam’s progress. Can you give a summary of his situation and why are we waiting until round 8?

A supreme talent who like Stengle is behind the 8 ball in terms of his physical fitness but he’s got more excuses having never done an AFL pre season and playing amateurs 2 years ago

He is a medium target and good in the air like Gov has express speed and his forward pressure is good and is also a goal kicker

I’m expecting big things next year and onwards but will be more a cameo year from him this year

He played very well in the U23s before running out of gas

IMHO he and Chayce were the most impressive of the newbies in the under 23 trial. He looks very classy but his defensive efforts quickly fell off. Stengle appeared fitter but was still not up to AFL level as a defensive forward.

They could both be pushing for a spot later this season.

I think Stengle might be better at conserving energy than Mcadam because he is even worse - both highly talented

If you make a statement that is plainly false purely to support a stupid belief, then you should expect to be called out for it. If you don’t want me posting as I did, don’t make up bullshit.

Dougy won't play more than 10 games in the AFL this year.

Sauce..... I was hopefully but ROB hasn't put forward his case super well...... yet.

ROB was no worse than Sauce last week and he actually moved much better. Reality is that he won’t get a chance, because as I’ve been posting, Sauce will play every game that he puts his hand up for. Dougie will get at least 10 to play a good one which will keep h8m in for a few more when it inevitably happens in a 100 point flogging.

We know you've been posting it, it's been your go to move for years now.

Dougy will get 10 games max, Sauce 15-16.

ROB hasn't put anything beyond doubt, his ruck craft isn't better than Jacobs yet and although he undoubtedly moves better, we saw Sauce play a really solid game last week.

Sauce was very ordinary early, soundly beaten, but like a couple of other seniors ie Tex/Gibbs, did work into the game nicely after an embarrassing first quarter and a bit. I wouldn’t mind a bet on this.

I highly doubt Stengle is worse, seeing he has been on an AFL list for two seasons.

Don't mistake not being quick for not being fit. Stengle is much like Betts in his top speed, which isn't good enough defensively on his own, but will be alright as long as one or two others can do the lionshare of that work.

Learn to respect an opinion. You do it well during the offseason, why can't you do it during the onseason?

What's this about round 8 though? Is the club giving him special individualised training for an extra 2 months to get him to speed with fitness at AFL level?

Time trials pretty sure he’s the worst or he plays JLT after kicking 4

Unfortunately there is a very big problem existing in the name of Eddie Betts which completely destroys that idea. Especially factoring in that both are the same type of player (not to say Stengle is Betts level, just stylistically the same), and neither are crash hot defensively means we won't play both unless our hand is truly forced by injuries.

Stengle occupies a spot that Jenkins did when he came here. Traded in as depth which isn't in the conversation for a best 22 spot due to being completely blocked by a better player, however there is serious potential to cement themselves into the best 22 in a year providing certain scenarios plays out. For Jenkins it was Tippett leaving/injured, for Stengle it's Betts falling off the cliff/retiring.

Honestly, is Stengle really that exciting?

If he has so much potential and talent, wouldn't he have a career by now...?

Had a good start to his VFL career as a small forward, seeing he's been around 30-35 goals for the last two seasons (and it's specialised enough of a position that it'd be a tiny drop in an AFL side). Very much a victim of a bad list situation seeing Richmond really pushed away from permanent small forwards during his first season which took away any spot for him.

He'll be a solid Betts replacement when the time comes though (probably capping out at 35-45 goals which is good for a small forward), or he won't make it and we have lost absolutely nothing.

No problem with the risk/reward component; but I think people are getting a little carried away with his potential, given he hasn't proven anything yet.
